How big is the ball joint mount? Looking for a wireless mount I can swap out the one on this to go cordless?

Just a little over half inch not much for the ball joint

How wide does the phone holder clamp open up to? Would it hold a phone that is 5" in width?

I don’t think so! Fully opened appropriately 4’’. I really like this holder without the extension on, the extension vibrates and doesn’t without.
