Summertime Stories: Contains 30 classic tales (Bumper Short Story Collections) Paperback – 14 Jun. 2018

I bought this book for my granddaughter. As a child I loved Enid Blyton and I told my granddaughter all about this. I then decided to see if she would like this book and if the stories were still as entertaining as I remember. Indeed they are and she loved it.

I read these stories to my children and they love them at bedtimes.

Magical Enid Blyton stories. Granddaughter, seven years old, loves it. Impossible to go wrong with Enid Blyton.

A classic collection of stories from one of the all time greats. Plenty of tales about summer adventures with rivers and meadows etc, which is what I was looking for. However, it is inevitably very dated. I felt quite odd reading such obviously cautionary tales to my children in 2020. Children getting sent to bed without supper or having to do a week's hard labour because of a simple mistake or accident seemed anachronistic (and cruel to today's sensibilities). I'd advise reading the stories yourself in advance and deciding which you're comfortable reading to your child. Some of them are great, but not all 30.
