Q: Is the trunk sturdy enough to sit on or place other objects on top of it?

Yes, we have had 11 college students stand on this trunk at the same time. It was a little tricky getting them all on there at the same time but we did it and the trunk wasn't damaged at all!

Q: How much does it weigh

The undergrad trunk will weigh roughly 28 lbs empty.

Q: Would a 6mm size lock work? If not what size lock would I need?

Our center hasp will fit any standard sized padlock, so a 6mm shackle diameter will definitely work.

Q: can a student ship this through fedex?

No, it is not sturdy enough to be shipped. I experienced that after shipping in a cardboard box with peanuts to my sons camp. Not sturdy enough to ship filled with contents.
