Any real advantage in getting this one rather than the £99 (smaller version)?

Buy the larger version then you can use larger pieces of wood either to make into kindling or just to split logs ready for burning.

assuming you can use this to split a large log into two and not only for making kindling?

Yes you can I do it. Some split logs you buy or even split yourself can be too big for your stove then I use the Kindle Cracker to reduce their size. When splitting these logs I sometimes find that the wood is very suitable for making kindling and even very small kindling. Other logs can have a lot of knots (origins of branches in the tree) and these are not great for making kindling with. My neighbour and another friend have seen and used mine and they have now bought the same brand Kindling Cracker.

Silly question but what do you secure it to to help stability?? If so do you leave it out all year ?? Thanks for advice/ answers in advance 😘

I use stainless steel lag boltand penny washers to secure it to an offcut of an oak beam and just give it an occasional spray of WD40 or somthing similar
