Not sure yet as I've only just bought it. I highly recommend it though for sound quality. Only problem is it's a steep jump between 1 bar of volume and 2nd bar. Ideally there should be somewhere In between for quiet listening.

Is the clock big enough to easily read from a few metres away?

Yes, I would say so and my eyesight isn't the best. The time digits are well lit and a decent size being 3.2cm across and 1cm height in total. (The display panel if of course bigger 7cm across x 3cm height) We don't use the radio as a bedside clock but I can see the time from across the kitchen. Great little radio we love it.
