This is a must have for artists.
I'm delighted with this purchase. Its a beautiful book .I was a little sceptical when first recommended it, because its been published a while - over 10 years - but its a gem!. It gives loads of information on watercolour painting techniques, materials, and the different scenarios - landscapes, botanics, still life, amongst others. Its very well illustrated with precise easy to follow examples and tuition. He talks through the most common problems experienced in everyday watercolour painting for both the beginner and the more experienced artist, and gives great encouragement to help you find your own style. I just want all aspiring watercolourists to invest in themselves by having it to hand.

Love this book
I've only just become interested in watercolours after using acrylics for years. I wanted a good introduction but not beginner level. I heard about this book from a YouTube video. It was not an advertisement, the artist just mentioned the book so I looked it up, the reviews were good, so I sent for it. I'm not disappointed. The book offers good all round advice but also shortcuts that make the process quicker and easier while producing professional results. If you want a side line earning from watercolour, this is going to help you get your goal. If you want to paint just for yourself, and be proud of your efforts, this is your book. The guy knows what he's talking about.

Good, practical advice
I'm really pleased with this book. It gives clear explanations as to how watercolour actually works and how to use the properties of watercolour. Plus it gives detailed instructions on tackling of whole range of landscape elements, such as foliage, foregrounds, skies, rocks, water etc. with all sorts of tips that I'd never considered before. There is some repetition, as there are two books together in this volume, but at the price, it is very good value.I absolutely recommend this to anyone struggling to master the art of watercolour painting.

Quite brilliant!
I love this book. This book contains lots of tips that are a pleasure to read and will help unlock watercolour's potential. Some beautiful examples of paintings and very clear methodical explanation of techniques that are well illustrated. The bonus is that the version I bought seems to be two books in one! Half way through it starts again and begins the Watercolorist's Essential Notebook Landscape. I'm sure I've seen this as a separate book, but it is here together with the one indicated on the cover. A real bargain!

Very practical
Written in easy to understand language. Very logical and worth following the principles. Watercolour painting is the most difficult painting medium, thus any help is of value.

All you need to know about water colour
This is a book that has been made up from an artists notes and paintings. The opening chapters go a bit further than these books normally go, giving reviews on various paint makers, and explaining how to work out which paint you need. There are lots of short exercises, covering the majority of water colour techniques.I would recommend this book to students and teachers, as well as those who just want to improve their techniques.
