Q: Can some tell me how to change the melody please?

The leaflet tells you it's the two buttons on the side.

Q: changing the battery. The bell stopped working after 18 months. With a new battery it still does not work. Does it need resetting in some way please

I had the same problem a month ago with my door bell tried a new battery in bell push no success. pluged the bell chimes into a 13Amp socket and tested by pressing button on the side and found that chimes played. so came to the conclusion that bell push was at fault. A you could not buy a bell push on it's own had to purchase a complete new push and chimes. Hope that this helps.

Q: Can this ring doorbell be given to a friend as a Christmas gift?

Well, I think there is no problem. It can play Christmas Carols and Animal Sounds, etc., my daughter loves it
