Q: Can2 fit in a normal duplex outlet?

No. I tried every outlet in the house, and can only 'stack' two in the GFCI duplex outlets. In standard duplexes, they won't both fit together.

Q: If I have horizontal outlets, will these allow me to plug something in vertically?

Yes, one outlet will be vertical.

Q: How far will it protrude from the wall

The gray shell is nearly a perfect 1.7" cube. When it's plugged in it protrudes 1.7".from the surface of the outlet. The outlet and cover will stand off the wall a little bit, so I'm guessing it will total around 2".
