I have read numerous versions of the Mahabharata. Though this book does not tell the story as a narrative, it is enormously informative. It picks specific episodes from the Mahabharat and illustrates how these stories are represented in visual and performative arts. I have come back to it many times over the years I've owned it, simply to browse, or to delve into a particular episode that has come to mind. My kids have enjoyed the Mahabharata when I've read it to them in comic book form, and this book has often been what we've gone to, to better understand how these stories are represented in art and culture.A spectacular companions to one of the most important imaginative works humanity has produced, beautifully produced and illustrated.
