The Gastritis Healing Book: A Comprehensive Guide to Heal Gastritis and Restore Your Stomach Health

Book saved me. My symptoms are MUCH better
This book has a very high average review, which it deserves in my opinion. I have followed this diet (with some influence from Acid Watchers Diet, which is more for GERD and is just a little bit less strict) for 6 months and for the first time in years, I am almost entirely symptom free now. I think I could make a full recovery this year, which I never would have thought possible and which never would have happened just following the guidance of my doc or even my GI specialist who diagnosed me with chronic erosive gastritis. But there are some negative reviews of course, and I wanted to address those. There is concern there is some contradictory info, such as keeping hydrated but being warned against drinking too close to meals. I personally didn't see major contradictions like some claimed. I may not follow the book 100% in this regard but I drink a lot less water at meals now - but I still have to drink some - and I drink more during the day. I don't think this is a serious problem with the book that means you shouldn't buy it.Some people say it's so complex and technical. He provided a medical explanation of the digestive system, gastritis, and how these things affect each other. For a comprehensive book about curing gastritis, I didn't think this was inappropriate to write about, nor particularly difficult to understand, even if it was a little dry and of lesser interest or importance to me. What's more, he has another entire book of recipes (without all the medical info), and that book is offered totally free in electronic form (QR code for it is in my book and I think his website may have the link too).Lastly, there are a small number of reviews that said the person could hardly find anything to eat given the limitations of the diet and that they even got worse health-wise. I'm not denying some people got more sick, but I would assume this is 100% user error. For example, someone said they lost so much hair because they didn't get enough protein and the doctor said the diet was doing terrible things. I am getting more protein than ever right now, and I'm still following the diet. You can eat eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, seafood, nuts, seeds, legumes, pea powder protein which can be added to many things, and many other sources of protein on the diet. I agree many foods are cut which makes life more complicated, like no fast food, no processed food, no food with added sugar, etc., and I think some people really struggle to make what can be huge life or dietary changes. But I can say I am able to both follow the diet, and eat some of the tastiest and filling meals. There is at least one comment mentioning the author isn't a doctor or trained professional. That's a valid point to me but at the same time I have found, over and over and over again, that people's doctors simply put them on meds and send them off. This was 100% my experience. My doctor even suggested drinking milk to help mitigate my stomach burning, which this book discusses and makes clear that while it is initially high-ph (non-acidic), dairy is acid-forming in the stomach and later will increase burning. This is well proven if you research this yourself, so I don't necessarily buy the argument a doctor will always know more, if they haven't studied gastritis extensively, which mine clearly didn't. If Capellan were a doctor or nutritionist, it would be a better indicator of his background knowledge, but he uses many citations and I don't think it's impossible for someone to study something enough independently to make good recommendations based on solid research available in medical journals and the like, which he did. I had a bad case of gastritis, but I joined some groups on Facebook (there's one by this author in fact) and I can see now how some people's lives are totally upended from this horrible condition, to where they have had to go to the hospital or had major other issues at the same time. Some of these folks only have 3-4 things they can eat without being in total agony (and even those few things aren't easy to eat either). I think it's asking a lot to expect this book to address this situation for people let alone offer a total cure. But I would say virtually everyone properly following this diet - which also involves making other changes such as dealing with stress, adding more physical activity, and potentially using supplements like zinc carnosine and L-glutamine - if they are also using common sense and being aware of their nutritional needs, should experience some degree of improvement over time at the least. Or like me, discover that they could return to normal life and even eat some foods off the diet in moderation, as I have become able to do.

This book is helpful if you have gastritis.
This book is the real deal. There is a Facebook group that talks about issues with gastritis. In this group, the book has helped so many.Personally, I started implementing some of the changes as I have gastritis and I'm trying to do anything to keep my stomach lining from getting worse or even better. So far it is working

Please read if you’re struggling with gastritis
This book is very helpful for those struggling with understanding how the F you got gastritis. I for one didn’t and this book was suggested to me. Very glad it was, you’ll learn why, how to manage and how to take steps towards healing your gut.

Mixed bag
Some great recipes here. Also some spurious health advice regarding things like seed oils and elimination of gluten which may not be necessary if you do not present with any signs of celiac. Writing seems to be AI augmented.

Good book, but make sure you've been tested for Celiacs first!
Great book. My son was diagnosed with gastritis, but after further testing we found out it was Celiacs Disease. His symptoms were way more in line with gastritis than celiacs. If you think you have gastritis, make sure you have been tested for Celiacs before you accept the diagnosis. It's a simple blood test. However, the book was very informative and I learned a lot reading it. Great suggestions and education for managing this condition. Also has some nice recipes

Very helpful, highly recommend
I’d always had a bit of a finicky stomach, but it was never a “problem.” An extremely high stress life event that kept me in an extremely stressed state for weeks, apparently pushed me over the edge to where I felt like I was having heart spasms. After an appointment with a trusted doctor, I was informed that I likely had gastritis. After trying a medication and attempting to change my diet, I saw some improvements, but this book helped bring about more improvements.*I would like to add…For a long time after this, I still had to avoid various acidic foods and red meat. While this book helped significantly, it was actually a weekly 30 to 36 hour fast that got me back to a point where I could eat about anything I wanted again.
