ScoscheMPQ2V MagicMount Magnetic Vent Mount Holder Charger for Vehicles, Black, 2nd Generation

I was super excited to get this mount because I already use the original magic mount in all of my vehicles and I love them. Upon receiving the product and reading through the instructions I discovered that I needed to mount the plates directly to my phone and not on my otterbox commuter series case. I was super hesitant in doing this because I dont like to stick anything directly onto my phone. In the past, Ive put the metal plate between my phone and the case without the adhesive and it stayed in place because it was sandwiched in there pretty good and it stayed on my original magic mount ok so I finally decided to go for it. I mounted it directly onto my phone. I then put my case back on it (because who doesnt use a case to protect their very expensive hardware?) and tried to stick it to the new magnetic mount. It barely holds on and falls off on every bump on the road. I cant believe they dont have this figured out to where I can use my case! Anyways, I hope this helps someone else out that might be thinking about getting one of these for their Galaxy S9+ because I wish someone else had written a review like this. Hoping to get my money back since this wasnt clearly stated in the product description. Now I need to get another big scosche plate for my case again so I can at least use my old original magic mounts again...

UPDATE: Feb 11, 2020So I had bought this in may of 2019. The charger still works great. One flaw is that the vent clip model, the metal has worn through and is now scratching my vents. Actually it has been doing this for a while.In my attempt to looked for a replacement clip(which I have no problem purchasing) I ended up going to the scoche website and contacted customer service to inquire. I had told them I had this charger for over a year. I had also told them I had bought a restocked or refurb. This was before I actually looked at the order. Anyway, they are sending me a new clip free of charge!. The new clip arrived and it seems to be a better design. The old one was 4 pronged.This new is 2. Seems like it holds to my vent better. If I could add an extra star I would. also I now use a note 10 plus vs a galaxy s8. I think the charger works just fine with it and I guess because the note is much larger it seems to have a much larger sweet spot. Charging is even easier. On my old s8 I had put the plates directly on the phone. I did so with the note too except i put a piece of packing tape on first. The plates on the s8 seem like they would be a pain to take off. I only use a bumper case so I have no issue with the charging.OLD REVEIW:I bought this spefically because I deliver for a major food chain and we use our phones on the job. I am in and out of my car and have to grab my phone. It can be a pain to constantly plug in my phone.I did just purchase a new phone case that is clear on the back. Again specifically for this purpose. In the past I had tried a different magnetic charger but it did not work with the otterbox defender and took it off only to break my phone 3 weeks later. Plus that charger, the design was flawed in how the metal attached to the phone.I specifically got the vent model because I do know that this is easily overheated. I use the air conditioning. In the winter I always keep my car on defroster sonthe hot air doesnt come through the vents.I have not actually used this as of yet, but have placed the plates on the back of my phone and tested it. It does hold and ot does charge on first try. I will update if there are any issues.I wish this had fast charging which it does not seem to have. I just need to start my day on a full charge. This will make sure my phone doesnt run too low.Lastly. This vent clip seems to hold well. I have been using just a scosce regular magnet vent clip. This seems to grab and stay in place better... at least on my car. (2017 versa)Oh and I used the two small plates on the inside of my phone (g s8).

The selling point of this product is that it is a wireless quick mount. Sadly, it fails on both of these points. The magnetic plates are applied as directed with the guides. When placed on the mount at the stronger magnetic point your phone does not receive the wireless charge. If you adjust your phone until it finally connects and begins charging, it will fall off the mount when you start driving. I have made several adjustments to the configuration and have had no luck lessening these issues.

First off, the build quality is pretty good so that is why I gave it the 2 star rating. For some people, it might be the perfect item. That's about all I liked about the item.There were a few things wrong with this item which did not meet my expectations:- The head does not articulate to adjust the angel of the mount which causes a problem in some vehicles where the weight of the phone drops the angle of the vents.- This will not work with an Otterbox Defender case on an iPhone XS Max.- In order to switch from landscape to portrait mode (or vice versa) you need to grab the mount and twist it while it is on the vent which could lead to the vent fins breaking.- The part of the mount that actually attaches to the vents is not tight enough to get a firm hold on the vents. The mount tends to slope down after a few bumps in the road.I really wanted to like this mount but I just couldn't use it for what I needed. Such a shame.

Been using mine frequently for a year, love the convenience, the detachable clip, and the charging speed. The magnets do need to be stronger: would not recommend using this without a case, as the phone will sometimes slip off while driving; but the case will also weaken the magnetic attraction, making it more prone to slippage. Thick cases are completely incompatible with this design. The magnets are SIGNIFICANTLY weaker when warm, such as in summer weather or when running your car heater through the vent your device it attached to: turn off the airflow for that vent in the winter but run your AC through it in the summer, if you can. The design would be vastly improved with a small adjustable shelf at the bottom, to reduce slippage. Would recommend.

Too expensive for a very slow charge. I used a USB 3.0 fast charger with this in my car, and still noticed the battery going down. If you don’t plan on using maps/other location based app constantly, this will probably get you a charge, but it’s less than satisfactory for someone who uses their phone for work. Definitely regret this purchase.

nothing was mentioned you need to stick something on your device to secure magnet hold until you open the package.
