I absolutely loved this book there was plenty of information , and details about signs and symbols from around the world. There was also many sigils as well and they where very greatly explain.

With 244 pages this book really takes the time to go in depth. The only thing I would have liked to see in the book was signs of the god and goddess. This book was well worth the money. I would recommend it to anyone following the pagan path, not only for a good reference book but for a very easy and interesting read as well.

As somebody else stated before, this book is lacking in detail. I would give it five stars if it were more detailed, for sure! It's good if you're just looking for a little primer on signs, symbols, and omens, but Buckland doesn't really extrapolate on the reasons behind the information presented. Maybe it's just me, but I like to know "why?"! I want to know WHY a specific sign might be used, why it looks the way it does, etc.--not just what it is. Also, in many cases throughout the book, Buckland provides symbols and words, but no explanation as to what they signify. This is a good quick reference if you don't want to get too in-depth, but I think that more time could have been put into the writing of this book, for sure. (And, as someone else said, there weren't very many omens...kind of disappointing.)

This book gives a great account of history of different cultures but the information it gives on specific symbols is pretty sketchy. Some symbols are just thrown on a page with the name of the symbol with out any more information about that symbol while other symbols it gives a multi paragraph description. Usually there is a long description of the history of each culture in each chapter which I enjoyed but still wish I could have learned more about each symbol as since that was why I bought the book.

Finally! I've been searching for a book that shows images of different types of sigils and symbols, this book has them! Most of the other books I've purchased have only been the definitions of symbols, telling the meaning of them without accompanying images. This will be greatly helpful.

So much more than I hoped for! Really interesting and inspiring for any fantasy/sci-fi or history writers or buffs out there!!

A good book but not very complete when it comes to symbols, I wish it also gave more on Omens.
