I started getting into gardening and found this kit to try out in May. I liked that everything in the kit is recyclable and it's basically just add water and wait. Very simple and easy to do. The seeds for each herb were enough for several batches. There was enough soil for one extra container, which came in handy later as I found watering the pot did cause the soil to be compact and some of the soil washed away at the bottom. In my initial try, all but the thyme did not sprout even after waiting an additional month. I eventually tried digging around the soil to see and found that 3-4 of the seeds had discoloration to greyish-white. Maybe mold from being too damp? However, almost all of them sprouted after sowing a new batch of thyme. I failed to keep my cilantro going for more than 2-3 months due to the hot temperature here, so I'm going to try again in late fall when it would be cooler. I followed the pamphlet, with a few deviations, as my climate was scorching. Also, the temperature here is reaching the mid-90s, so I found that 2 oz or less of water was not helpful. The soil ended up dry and clumping back together, so watering in the morning, afternoon, and sometime in the evening was necessary. However, the rest of the instructions and tips were helpful. One thing to note is that the pots that came with this are like cardboard, but once they get damp, they are easy to tear, so be careful. I accidentally ripped the top rim of one by picking it up there, not the bottom or side. Overall this was a great little kit to get started in gardening. I will probably buy more as a gift for some of my friends. Edit: After a few months of using this kit, I didn't like the peat pots as much as I thought. I find that they suck the moisture out of the soil way quicker compared to when I am using similar size plastic pots, which causes me also to keep constantly watering the plants every day. Also, I don't want to overwater/soak these pots in water due to fear of mold. Once it gets back to spring temperature, I will try to bury these pots to see if they will degrade faster as I will probably stick to my plastic pots.

I’ve never been more excited to open an Amazon package as I have been for this one! The moment I opened the kit, I knew I was going to be impressed with everything in it! The simple artwork and presentation alone are well thought out. The creative way the herbs are stored was a nice surprise! The instructions are simple, detailed, and easy to understand. A link was also available for those who wanted a step by step how-to video. I absolutely love that everything included is organic and non-GMO! The detailed instructions made it very easy for me to set everything up and plant the seeds. I kid you not...once I had the organic containers planted, and on my windowsill; I checked on them so many times just to look at how adorable they were! Each pot has its own wooden stick with the herb’s name and a space to write the date planted. 1/4-1/2 cup of water and light from the window each day is all needed to ensure your herbs will thrive. The first sight of a seedling emerging is soooo exciting! Since this kit, I’ve also bought another for a family member! These would make an amazing, unique gift for such a reasonable price! Now, for one of the things that impressed me most was the company’s story and customer service. This is a husband/wife company . I won’t go into details other than, their story is mentioned beautifully in the kits’ information. They truly care about the customer, and their happiness with their product. I emailed them a few times, and always received a heartfelt response in an incredibly short amount of time! I could go on and on... I’m just a wife, mother, and grandmother who loves gardening, and this kit has surpassed what I had expected! It’s so exciting to watch the herbs grow! I’ll post more pictures when my plants are bigger! Buy it, you won’t be disappointed!!! It’s a great product!!!!

This is a great little starter set. All of my seeds did indeed sprout, but note that if you want your herbs to really grow, you will need to transfer them into larger pots. While the little soil discs and pots it comes with are great, I would recommend just starting with larger pots to begin with, to avoid the hassle and inconvenience of re-potting (whenever I try re-potting, my plants die or take a while to adapt and become healthy again). And while you're at it you may as well just buy seeds separately. But if you're looking for an entire kit, with everything included, this is a good one. The instructions it comes with are ideal and explain how to care for the plants, making it easy even for someone with no gardening experience or knowledge. Overall I am happy with my purchase. I only used half the seeds my first time around, so I will use the remainder of the seeds in larger pots and see whether I can get bigger, better herbs that way. If you're looking for a complete starter set guaranteed to sprout, look no further.

This set was to help me with my first ever attempt at a sustainable food garden. The packaging was really cute, and nice. The pamphlet was pretty, and informative. I think for a starter set it was very good. It was better than another vegetable starter kit I got, a strawberry kit, and a catnip kit. So ita the best of 4 I have tried. There was enough soil to fill my four inch pots, the stick labels were nice, uniform, and helpful. I did take things very slow, so planting all 5 took almost an hour. I think soaking the soil in a jar that fits the soil would be more beneficial as my bowl was a little to wide. Update 3/16 All 5 have sprouted. They came within 4-11 days. They seem to be going quite strong. They are fairing better than the other kits I got. This could be because herbs are easy starter plants, but I think all the detailed information in the pamphlet really helped. I'll add photos once they are more established. The package did include a garden tool that was wrapped in plastic. I would prefer not to have this in the package, especially for individuals who might purchase future packages like I would prefer to do. It is unnecessary waste. The package did not need the tool, and while it might be good for a larger garden like I would one day hope to have, I think it would be something I could individually get based on my preferences. The sellers seem very nice, and wonderful. I like the message they share with their gardening package. It makes this seem more like a community friendly hobby which I think a lot of gardeners expect it to be. I will keep updating this review as the plants start to grow. At this time I really like the product and the company.

I had to revise and reduce the rating to 3 stars. Although I carefully followed all the instructions, my herbs did not survive transplanting. I went through the entire process twice and the results were the same. I was very disappointed. Original Review I absolutely love my herb garden starter set. It was packaged very nicely. I followed the enclosed instructions and within 1 week each herb sprouted just as promised. All 5 herbs are continuing to grow quite nicely. This is my first time nurturing herbs from seeds and I'm thrilled at the outcome. I highly recommend. I planted seeds on 5/9/2020 and submitted this post only 11 days later on 5/20/2020. If I can do it, so can you.

Great product, I bought two kits for both my parents who like gardening. They really give you everything to help you set up. I do want to make note that the "pots" they give you are pretty delicate (they are made of some sort of cardboard/biodegradable material) especially when you water the plants and they can rip at the top if you move the pants around. If you follow the directions, the herbs start growing immediately. Some herbs take longer than others to get going. You do not need to have a green thumb to start these out, however, once they get too big for the starter pots (around 6 inches tall) it gets a bit more tricky. You will not be able to actually use the herbs until much later on and after you have repotted them to larger pots (you need to buy all new pots). Taking care of the more matured herbs will require some gardening skills to know how to keep them alive. Once in bigger pots, you are kind of on your own because you need to decide when to change out the pots, water, and take care of the herbs. Not a huge deal for people who enjoy gardening, but this might be overwhelming for someone who wants an easy project.

Exceeded expectations! The presentation upon arrival was such quality! My kids immediately wanted to get involved! We are VERY novice plant/herb growers and this was our first attempt. We had some bumps along the way and messaged Spade to Fork and received a reply from very quickly! They gave me some amazing tips to help us and also emailed us a copy of a new brochure they were working on adding to their kits that contained not only more information than the original but you could feel the love and devotion they have for helping novice and skilled gardeners alike to achieve success in their gardens. I had made a mistake with my seedlings and moved them from one area to another too quickly when they were sprouting and they were so kind to make sure we had enough seeds left to start over and we did because they are so generous with what’s provided in the kit. They also very kindly took their time to explain to me exactly what went wrong and how to fix it so it didn’t happen again. Everything is organic and whether you are just wanting to plant your own herb garden or, as I did, have your children help and watch their eyes become wide with love and pride as they watch their little herbs grow.
