This book is a goldmine!
I'm a die-hard fan and follower when it comes to Mike Stern's history, compositions and overall approach to playing. Stern, Pat Martino and Robben Ford have had the most impact on me as a guitarist. The book contains an excellent choice of compositions from the last few decades of his recording career and I'm so glad to have finally found a series of concepts that gives us some insight and breakdown into his thought process over changes. Of the 3 reviews since it's release, I can't believe that nobody has recognized the author Joe Charupakorn for his amazing playing and detailed execution of these lines (no easy feat) and his explanations covered here were also quite insightful. As I'm digging into the book I'm finding that these ideas are blending into my soloing/phrasing I'm finding that through studying many of these concepts I'm creating more interesting lines and fluidity in my style. I'm grateful to Joe and Mike Stern for making this gem of a book finally available..Kudos!

A Worthwhile Investment of Both Time and Money!
I have just received the book and haven't had a chance to try out the transcriptions. However, in addition author Joe Charupakorn's detailed notes for each transcribed piece, and the CD accompanying the book with demo's of the material, there is a introduction-cum-biography of Mike Stern and a three-page interview in which Stern discusses his influences and some of his techniques. Also included is a discography up through 2009's "Big Neighbourhood" and with a detailed list (with photographs) of Stern's guitar rig including the set-up and levels. That, along with the six-page "Bop 'n' Roll: A Lesson with Mike Stern", makes this a music folio that I look forward to using to better understand Stern's approach to jazz and to improve my own playing. This, in short, is a worthwhile investment of both time and money!

The lesson from Mike Stern himself is worth the price
There are lots of transcription books out there, but the introductory lesson into Stern's playing style is priceless. The additional tips and approaches to the transcriptions are also very valuable. Which is why I prefer the signature series to simple straightahead transcriptions.

Very good.
Would have enjoyed even more analysis of the solos themselves, but still a great book for any Stern fan.

excellent transcriptions of stern's works; technical comments are relevant and the tracks at medium speed allow beginners and intermediate to use this material .

Courage.
