what is the difference between the mini vs micro size?

This mini set is a mixed profile 3mm or 1/8” width which includes different U gouges, V gouges. This set has a palm handle. The micro sets come in even smaller sizes such as 1.5mm and have pencil grips. For pencil grip micro gouges I prefer Dockyard tools. This set is great for slightly larger size with palm handles.

Are the blades removable from the wooden handles?

Flexcut makes some sets with removable blades. This is not one unless you want to destroy the handles in the process. To look for the removable handle set, look for one with many blades and a few plastic handles.

the most recent review is not so good...was this an aberration or did they change their manufacturing?

I find Flexcut to be the best available chisels. I compared them to new Swiss, European and Japanese chisels as well as my grandfather's American hand forged Buck Brother's chisels. Flexcut simply have a smoother interior finish than hand forged American, Swiss, European or the Japanese chisels I have sharpened. While sharpening flattens the outside of a chisel, it is much harder to flaten the interior of a V or U chisel. Especially the smaller ones. If the inside is striated or less than perfectly flat, the sharpened edge is undesireably rough and irregular. Yes, I have various shapes of white hard and black Arkansas whetstones, but never the exact shape. The mirror smooth Flexcut can simply be stropped on the Flexcut stropping tool for a super edge. They are slightly harder than Swiss tools, but not the glass hard easy to chip Japanese tools. I found the Mini-Palm set to be perfect for linoleum block carving and small wood detailing. I will buy more.

Works great for carving linoleum for relief printing!

I am using them with Speedball Speedy Carve linoleum pieces and they are a joy to use for detail carving for Linocut prints. I will start carving regular Lino when my order for the Flexcut SlipStrop arrives so I can sharpen them when needed. I like the Flex cut Mini set because there’s a small u shape chisel that I was missing when I just had the Speedball 5 blade set. I have just had the set for a couple of days so I can’t say anything about edge retention yet but some professional printmaking artists recommend them.

THE BEST!! If you have hand pain, these are really nice!!

I thought I would be able to use the cheaper carving tools since I an only carving the pink rubber for art work. My hand hurt so badly I quit doing it. I decided to try these, and they are effortless and cause no pain. I absolute love them!!

Sharp, Affordable Printmaking Tools

Best linoleum tools that I have yet to purchase. These are comfortable and really sharp. I can cut smooth lines and shapes with ease.I have had them for a while and do not need to sharpen these as often as some of my other tools.Had a good laugh when I opened up the wooden storage box, which is also very convenient, and found a bandaid holder.

These are really good tools, I have bought a few different brands of tools and most of them have been good but all my flexcut stuff is great quality and reasonably priced. the palm part is a bit smaller than i was expecting but its still comfortable and it works really well.

My favorite cutting tools!!

I carved a 2' by 2' image of a horse from particle board called MDF and printed the image. These tools are strong and sharp. I recommend not using MDF. Linoleum or wood is a better choice. Flexcut tools are easy to sharpen too. Much prefer these to Speedball tools.
