Great books. Goes into great detail about NIC settings. However I was disappointed they didn't talk much about firewall settings or or how to configure settings on clients

Awesome information. A "must-have" for anyone planning, or have already done DirectAccess. Definitely the best resource out there on operational and troubleshooting aspects of DA.

Definitely helps with those little details that TechNet seems to leave out. A must have resource for anyone responsible for remote connectivity.

There was good info presented that helps to look at the "why's" behind some of the configuration choices you have with DA. But, for the price I of the book I feel it was a bit light on content. I would have liked to see some information about the options for load balancing your DA solution and scalability and resource/performance considerations.

I have been among the hesitant when it comes to making the recommendation to deploy direct access (DA). My position has been that I want to ensure we don't trade one challenge for another. A losing battle of course with all the excited proponents, author included, and the rate new functionality and deployment scenarios are added to DA. Having said that, now what I'm about to get my feet wet I have been diving into anything and everything DA and must say this title was a welcome addition to my reading list! The author shares freely his experiences and lessons learned from the numerous projects he has been involved in. The book offers a summarized guide of the different design considerations and also includes a useful troubleshooting tutorial. The format may not allow for in depth discussions on all DAs moving parts, but the author still manages to for example offer some additional considerations regarding isatap and challenge common conceptions on Teredo. In conclusion, this is a good read for any aspiring DA admin!

The “Microsoft DirectAccess Best Practices and Troubleshooting” book by Microsoft MVP Jordan Krause is an excellent guide for any IT professional that looks forward to implement/ administer/troubleshoot Microsoft DirectAccess technology using Windows server 2012 R2 or Forefront Unified Access Gateway. The book is well written and organized with a great flow to deeply understand the best practices/guide lines, to implement the DirectAccess technology up to the current industrial Security standards, as well as to easily troubleshoot any issues that would hit the desk of a security administrator on a day to day basis.In the first chapter of the book, the author has given a detailed walk through of the best practices you need to follow as a security professional while you are deploying a windows server in your network.In the second chapter, the author dives deep in to the DirectAccess technology and walks you through the best practices for implementing DirectAccess. Adding to that, the author had also explained why the mentioned best practices needs to be followed and what types of issues would occur if they were not followed.In the last two chapters, the author has given the step by step process to follow if you were to troubleshoot any DirectAccess issues. He has given the list of windows server PowerShell commands to check the DirectAccess status on the client and server and what information to look from the output of each commands and to decide the component that’s causing any issues with DirectAccess. The author has also given a detailed explanation of the DCA/NCA logs and how a security administrator can be benefitted by using the tools while troubleshooting issues on a remote client. Especially in the last chapter, the author has discussed about a few unique reoccurring scenarios that he had experienced so far while working with lots of customers and this would greatly help a Direct Access administrator to quickly isolate an issue.This book is a great companion and will definitely make the life of a security administrator much easier if DirectAccess is implemented as Secure Remote Access solution for mobile employees in your corporate network or if it is a solution that you are looking forward to implement in the near future.

A bit too basic - mostly a "Cookbook" - would have liked some background information about how DA Works!

This book provide valuable information for your DirectAccess deployments. You will escape from common misconfiguration that could lead your DirectAccess project to failure. Planning is the key factor for DirectAccess projects. The two last chapter cover common problem encountered during DirectAccess deployments. This book worth the money. By now with Ben Ari book, you have no excuse to do not deploy DirectAccess in your environment.[...]

Bought this book on the assumption it will give a lot of technical details of the how Direct Access Works.The book is very basic goes into basic details of how to set it up, this information is readily available from a quick Google search.
