innomaker LA1010 USB Logic Analyzer - 16 Channel 100MHz, Portable Logic Analyzer with PC Software (Compatible Windows, Mac OS, Linux)

To say these units are aimed at the low to mid range professional / hobbyist level, I can say they blow some high end and far more expensive equipment out of the water. These are now my 'go to' instruments instead of my 'professional' gear, simply because these are superior in many regards.I generally work on repair of high power industrial electronics, so the major specification for me is the wide input voltage range which seems to be way better than the competition. It means I don't need to be as careful of what I'm about to connect it to, in case it might overload the input, or wasting my time making input protection just to take a quick measurement of a +-20v signal with a £1200 LA that can only accept 5v TTL.Plus if I do kill it accidentally, it's not going to break the bank.Overall it works well, no major complaints, software is nice and easy to use, effective, fast and has most of the bells and whistles of far more expensive gear... I'm impressed

I bought the LA1010 as I'd had one of the cheap little 8-channel logic analysers and for what I was doing I needed more channels.I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the unit itself but more importantly the software. It was a matter of a minute to be up and running with it. Adding a decoder was easy and most of the things I'd want to do there is an included decoder. Anything else, well there is an SDK.Most of the software is self explanatory but worth reading the (fairly short) manual as there are a few really nice features that aren't immediately obvious.I haven't used the included test clips (which others have reported not being great) but in honesty I'm taking it as a bonus they're included at all. USB cable is a decent one and a reasonable length (1.2m) which is nice. Mostly they're both terrible *AND* too short.The only downside is that it'll only do 16 channels at up to 16MHz, then 12 channels up to 25MHz, 9 channels up to 32MHz, 6 channels up to 50MHz and finally 3 channels up to 100MHz. As long as you don't want more than that its great, if you do I'd get the LA1016 (which does 16 channel at 100MHz) without any qualms.

This is not a bad unit, to be fair there are not many 16 channel LAs which can do this speed and depth, especially for the price. The biggest let down is the test clips. They are cheap and nasty, you really need to buy another quality set (which can cost as much as this whole analyser costs). One other thing that lets it down a little is the software. It looks nice and it works, but it’s not as configurable as the open source competition (Sigrok) and there seem to be too many steps needed to do certain things in the user interface (like setting up a parallel bus decoder). When Sigrok supports these units they will be so much more value for money.Edit January 2021: I've updated my score from 3 to 4 stars. Why? 1) This unit is now supported in Sigrok/Pulseview. and 2) Kingst have continually been updating KingstVIS with new features and fixes.

I have an old Saleae Logic 8 that is only 25MHz, it's been great but really not suitable for capturing anything over 5-7MHz. Many of the cheap logic analysers you find have the same limitation. I had an older model of the LA2016 at a previous employer, and this is just as good, in fact it's more compact and the plastic case is, in my opinion, a good upgrade from the metal case. With the metal case, I was always worried about it shorting on a random wire if I wasn't careful. This model is also much smaller than the one I had before.The Kingst software takes a while to download, their server is pretty slow, but once it's downloaded it's very good. The connection to the LA is only USB 2.0, so the speed for streaming data is pretty limited compared to the vastly more expensive Saleae options that are USB 3.0 - if you can work with capturing the samples and then reviewing them after it has enough memory to capture 50seconds of data at the full 200MHz.The software has an extensive range of analysers available, and does a good job decoding them. With the 200MHz sample rate, you can reliably capture 50MHz signals, however it's still good enough for me to capture and decode a 65Mhz SPI signal. If you need to capture a signal over 50Mhz regularly however, it would be worth looking at the LA5016 which is the 500MHz option.This is definitely much easier to use than the LA built into my oscilloscope!

Up until buying this unit my goto logic anlyser was a 9 channel ScanaPlus that worked well but did crash from time to time when using all channels at high frequency for long scans, 10seconds and above. With this analyser using all channels analysing three separate SPI sets of four signals running at 20MHz a serial link running at 2Megabaud Tx and RX and two other channels I have no problem collecting 50 seconds worth of data and analysing it down to nS levels. Great piece of kit and very simple to use, analyses all the standard protocols like Modbus SPI, I2C etc, including a neat package to download the data to text or csv files.Images show a 50 second sample monitoring three SPI bus and an expanded view showing the decoding in operationOverall this is a professional product at a reasonable price, very similar to the Scanaplus or other Ikea analysers but a great deal more reliable than the Scanaplus analyser, when collecting large amounts of data.
