Exceptional!!!
I had been eyeballing one of these Region-free players for a Long time, but had what I thought was a reasonable skepticism about quality, reliability, and ease of use. Well I have had this for a while now and put it through its paces, and I am impressed in every way. Works exactly as advertised: it is very easy to switch Blu-ray zones (automatically switches DVD regions), included instructions are clear and concise, has played everything I have thrown at it including both the newest Region A and B 4k Blu-Rays, new A & B Blu-rays, old Region 2 HD Blu-rays, Very old Region 1 & 2 DVDs, and some DVD-Rs of questionable origin -- everything just works. As far as the base features of the player unrelated to the Region-free modification, the picture is Fantastic (immediately noticed a quality difference from my old player), sound is great, remote is great, and menu system quick and intuitive. Highly recommended!

Region Free is not so region free.
I bought this unit because is was advertised as a region free player with 4K capabilities. I have a number of Russian films, German films and other foreign films in my BlueRay collection as well as U.S. region BlueRays. I bought it because my last region free LG would not play certain U.S. region BlueRays for some odd reason. When I got the UP970 I had the same problem unfortunately. It will not play Region A BlueRays. The LG UP970 came with Region Changing Instructions however, the instructions are for Sony UBP-X1000/X800-/X80/X700/X1100/X800M2 model players. Did anyone else have this problem? So far, I feel like I got royally jipped paying the extra money for the supposed region free option. So I called Amazon's customer service and got an immediate call back. Unfortunately it was very difficult to hear the representative because the connection was very poor. She was able to connect me to the actually seller of this unit and we were able to determine that my LG UP970 came with the wrong instructions. Instead of pressing the RED, GREEN, BLUE and YELLOW buttons to change the region settings, one needs to press the numerical 1, 2 and 3 buttons on the remote and then play. The unit is working fine now. Pleased as punch now that it is working correctly. Happy customer who has changed his rating.

Works well
I’ve played 4K videos as well as Blu-ray and regular dvds from several world regions and they’ve all played on this DVD player. When I play 1 4K movie, the movie just stopped a couple of times. But I’ve watched the same 4K dvd and didn’t have any problems the other times.

These are new, but have been modified to be region free.
Kinda weird. I mean, the unit works great, but I ordered this new after having a failed attempt at ordering a different supposedly region free LG 4k player on Amazon and having it turn out to be Region A only...I tried this one. The first thing I did was try a Region B disc. The instructions said I needed to turn the device on, press number 2 on the remote and it would reboot automatically and allow Region B discs. I pressed it and nothing happened, but the instructions it came with had an email address. I emailed them and they said the wrong instructions had been provided. Apparently for the UBK80, you need to make sure there is no disc in the player, and power it off completely. Then you press the corresponding button (button 1 for region A, button 2 for region B, and button 3 for region C) on the remote. The player automatically turns on and then you can insert a disc. I was able to switch regions no problem that way, but that brings me to why it's weird. I can tell this is an unused player because it's pristine, but the people who sell them are opening up the boxes and modifying them so they can play blu rays from any region. I can't complain because region free players are extremely overpriced, and this lands somewhere in the middle, plus my favorite 4k player was an LG. So, keep that in mind when buying it; it's new, but it has been opened and modified.

Now You can get TV Shows & Movies not available in the US and play them at home!
I am a fan of a number of British produced shows that are now out of print in the US or were never released in Blu-Ray here in the US. In the UK however shows like The Prisoner are still available and come in excellent remastered Blu-Ray editions. I read the reviews on this player which were mixed but I wanted 4K support AND multi-region so I took a chance and am extremely pleased. These region B TV shows and movies play perfectly and my US region A 4K HDR and Blu-ray and DVDs play great as well. Simple instructions came with the Unit. A couple of notes - the HDMI cable which came with the Unit did not work for 4K (so I bought a new one) and I didn't realize my 3 year old Audio Video Receiver would not pass a 4K HDR signal (Onkyo TX-NR646) - so I hooked the Blu-ray directly to the TV and sent the audio on an optical cable to the AVR. The picture is great but I don't get all the lossless sound across the optical channel. I have since ordered an HDMI splitter with HDMI Audio extract to pass an HDMI connection to my TV and my AVR which will hopefully fix this issue. Review to come later. Also note that there is a higher end LG multi-region 4K player available the UBK90 which has 2 HDMI outputs which would have been perfect for my situation. So if you have this issue I suggest spending a bit more, around $100 and getting that unit.

Great 4K Player
Shipping was quick and it arrived in perfect condition, plus the picture quality looks terrific for both 4K blu-rays and regular blu-rays. Switching regions on the player is very easy to do as well, I'm glad I can enjoy 4K films and blu-rays from other countries on the same player. Highly recommend if you want a great device to enjoy your high quality films for a very good price.

Product is good quality. Haven't had to manually adjust regions yet so time will tell. Most of my blue rays are playing as they are multiregion in any case. Great product and good technology. Not sure if it is 4k up scaling from blu ray normal discs
