Briess 5901 Liquid Malt Extract 32 lb Growler, Bavarian Wheat

I am on my second round with this LME. First 2 gallon jug yielded 8.5 2 gallon recipes. Jug kept the LME fresh for 2 months. I have made Ambers, Reds and Porters with this LME. It is an excellent, malty base. Works well with simple or exotic recipes, including a Triple, a fruit-infused Brown Ale, and currently running a "Nutella Brown Ale" using this LME as the base. Cleaned the jug thoroughly and took it to my local homebrew supply store for a re-fill. Now planning to convert my first jug to a secondary fermenter/clarification tank. Very good value for a shipped product. MUCH better than those awkward pouches from some homebrew shippers. Not as high of an ROI as volume LME from the homebrew supply store, but with a Prime membership, and free shipping - it balances out.

This is a great malt extract. The best thing about this product is the bulk packaging. Message to the seller: don't let the flame die out!

I used to buy bulk extract at a nearby brew shop but they closed and the only other store close by carries only name brand LME in the 3.3 lb canisters. Making a batch was getting expensive. I brewed five or six 5gal batches from this one jug. I kept it refrigerated and purged the headspace with CO2 in between batches. Stayed good for over a year. Made some great beer with it.

This is the cheapest way to buy LME. I separate it into canning jars. One jug fills exactly eleven quart jars, and exactly two quart jars (or exactly one half-gallon jar) make one very good 5-gallon batch of beer. Fill all the way to the brim, then refrigerate the remainder until you can use them for the next batch. Better yet would be to sterilize with Everclear and leave a pool of Everclear about 1/8" deep at the top of the jar to prevent any bacteria from growing.

Ok so I was a bit weary buying this due to other comments showing it broken and leaking during shipping. Mine however came very well packaged. It’s a full 32 lb growler of dark LME.

If you are serious about beer brewing this is great stuff. Literally just a 32 pound jug of LME! Very well packed! originally and then by amazon.

Works good for kicking up the alcohol content in a batch of beer.
