I bought this grater thinking my young children could use it safely but unfortunately it is too wide to grip. I still thought I would keep it for adults to use but it is so slow to grate cheese and the effort you need to grate it is too much. I have strong arms and hands and they were really aching just to grate cheese. I timed how long it took to grate half my block of cheese compared to the other half of cheese using a normal hand grater - it was four times as long! At first I grated the cheese on the fine grater and that just took for ever so I found the other grater hidden in the lid which is quite clever and the cheese comes out in little flakes which look nice, so that was a positive point. The other downside is having to wash up about five different parts. It looks very neat and sturdy and well built but what a pity that it didn't live up to what I thought it would.

This is an excellent grater for hard cheese like Parmesan. The spare blade (stored in the top cover compartment) shaves Parmesan (or chocolate) flakes. The top cover lifts off to access the spare blade.. thought I'd mention that as I had struggled in the beginning to open it by twisting the dome shape cover, ...until I realized that it simply lifts off!! Has airtight storage compartment for storing ungrated remaining cheese. Dishwasher safe. Parts dismantle easily. Appears to be solidly made. Made in Germany. Note that it's not a grater for medium hard cheese... get appropriate grater for these kind of cheese.

It looks beautiful and is made of stylish and sturdy materials. However it is not airtight, so the cheese dries out in the fridge. Also it relies on physical pressure to grate, rather than a threading method, and so when the cheese has gone hard, it is almost impossible to grate anything. Plus the grater is so fine that you need a lot to get a good covering of cheese.

ABSOLUTE CRAP! POOR ERGONOMICS!...Tiring to Use..Like turning a doorknob over & over & over again! Also had a crack in the plastic! It works by placing the cheese into a double-sided chamber where it's pushed against a metal grating disc (2 interchangeable disks; 1 in use & the other sits inside the knob/top) as you press down on the top knob piece and turn, the cheese shreds come out the bottom; the rotary barrel type graters work much better...this grater is awkward & requires considerable effort to obtain a small amount of grated cheese. I really wanted to like it but it is VERY TIRING on wrist to use it...NOT RECOMMENDED! Note: I purchased this used and it was delivered with a long hairline crack in the black plastic cap. This is the last time I purchase a used item, especially from the seller I used...shame on seller for selling damaged item & not describing.
