Wondering what grade stainless steel this is made with ?

Don't know grade of s steel but it is well made and heavy quality. Measure carefully before installing. It's been working great for 2 months now.

Can this be mounted vertically?

There is nothing to prevent a vertical mount; however you should consider (1) whether the spring on the front flap is strong enough to close when it is not assisted by gravity and (2) whether you would be comfortable with a back flap that remains open (because it relies on gravity for closure, and thus may not close automatically in a vertical mounting). We've had one of these vertically mounted in our office for over a year and it has worked fine in that configuration. Because it is mounted in the more traditional horizontal configuration, though, I cannot answer whether the spring is strong enough to close reliably in a vertical configuration.

where are the installation instructions? at over 100 bucks you would think they would have , and after reading install reviews i would think needed.

I had a contractor install it The original opening in the door had to be made larger due to the insert (bought separately) which is a little deeper than the door is thick. the slot isn't as flush to the door as I would like (no one else would notice), however I really like the door slot as it is not only good looking, but quite sturdy and has a flap on each side. Sorry I couldn't give you more instructions, but I suggest looking around the web for similar products that may have instructions
