Rutland Creosote Remover, Fireplace, Wood Stove & Chimney Cleaner, 2 lb Tub

I almost never leave reviews (and when I do it's because I'm angry) but this is an exception. I had a woodstove chimney fire many years ago and decided to start using this after the last time the chimney was cleaned about 5 years ago. I read every web page that said anything about using creosote remover and the vast majority said it's a scam. I tried it anyway. Then I neglected to get it cleaned for at least 5 years while using it. I just had it and my fireplace chimneys cleaned before the heating season. The fireplace chimney was disgusting, the guy showed me the big pile of soot that fell out. I have never used it up there because we maybe have 30 fires a year in it. I asked about the woodstove fearing the worst but he said it was spotless. I burn it every day I'm home (I work at home) and it's under 55 outside, so about 90-100 fires a year. I use it more often than recommended just in case. It's worth the extra $10 for the peace of mind.

I have used this product for 30 years, it works. Turns creasote into powder. Easier to clean the chimney. Unfortunately I received a cracked container. The powder was all over the inside of the box, all over everything else that was in the box. The box was not damaged, it was put in the box cracked. This is a toxic chemical, label says avoid contact with skin and eyes. If it comes in contact with skin flush with water for 15 minutes and contact a physician. Next time I will get it from local hardware store so I can inspect the container before I buy it.

I have used this product over 3 winters for my Harman pellet stove and Harman PF100 pellet furnace. The product works very well and I have put it to the test as I only turn off my pellet stove and furnace to clean out. It turns the creosote to a light brown dust that is easy to scrape off and will fall on its own when built up. It is most effective when used regularly to prevent build up and can also be sprayed directly on the sides and heat exchanger or any area inside that will reach high temperatures, which makes it very nice for end of season deep cleaning too. If I had 1 complaint, it’s that I wish it went further. I use about 1.5-2 bottles per winter on each heat source so I go through about 4 bottles a winter. Not bad for burning c.8 tons of wood pellets a season, but not the cheapest or most convenient either. All and all, it’s worth the money and I will be using this product year after year. (Unless I discover something that will prevent creosote from sticking)

I have always had a problem with creosote from my woodstove. Cleaning my chimney was a monthly job during the heating season. After using this Rutland product, the creosote build-up almost disappeared. I ordered my second tub because I am so satisfied with how well it works. Very easy to use and highly effective.

Used on Harman pellet stove, over 12 years.old. First time had creosote due to bad pellets. Directions not clear. Finally discovered could spray inside fire box, did so. I used a hair dryer to warm up creosote and then able to brush off. MUST wear a mask. Great product. No noticable odor. Did not treat pellets as auger was clear, concerned about potential damage. Highly recommend.

Creosote Remover by the bucket I heat my cabin with a wood stove, so smoke stack cleaning is yearly. I started using this to help make the clean up effort easier. I ran through a winter's heating and in the summer I opened the top of the stack, all I had was a light dusting to brush off. A pleasant surprise. USE is easy. They tell you how often to add this in a measured amount to your burning coals. that's about it. The reaction to this product to the burning coals is so uneventful, you can't help to wonder if it is working. Your inspection of the stack will tell you how it is helping keep the stack clear of creosote. Very easy to use, the pail lasts a long time, and it helps keep the stack clean or cleaner than if you didn't use it. Container was broken, but ingredients work well.

I forgot to service my pellet stove in the spring and there was a lot of sticky build up after leaving it dirty during our humid summers. This spray did the trick within a few hours of burning the pre treated pellets. The pellets dry quickly, it isn't a big deal to spray some and leaving to dry before putting them in the hopper. It worked on the inside of the stove as well as the pipes. A great find for pellet stove owners!

Easy to use and def helped open fire . But sad can't recover it think the whole uk delivery damaged by Bresit !

A heads up that you should close your windows before burning and ensure your seal is tight on the woodstove door. It did bother my lungs a bit. But it definitely made a noticeable difference and will no be part of our bi-annual chimney cleaning routine.
