Fretboard Roadmaps - Bluegrass and Folk Guitar Book/Online Audio

This book has a great way of introducing you to a different style of playing, not the standard type a playing most beginner method books will show. Please note, this book skips and jump a lot of the most basic things for playing and reading guitar. If you are a beginner be sure you start with something else; method books, teacher… before starting this. You will want to already be able to read either music notation or guitar tab pretty well and have a fair understanding of basic music theory. If you are a beginner this book will be frustrating and intimidating and your progress will be slow.The thing I didn’t like about the book is sometimes it is quite unclear what they are asking you to do during the exercises. But overall I think it is a good supplement book if you enjoy this style and really helps with learning the fretboard.

This is a good learning aid when trying to pick up this style of music playing. Some of the lessons are quick and don't really go in-depth (at least for myself) in explaining what some of the vocab is referring to. Teaches pertinent scale patterns along with song uses of the scales which is a big help. I think the book is fairly advanced, though admittedly I am very new to learning how to play guitar. Overall, a highly recommended piece of education and just downright fun!

I'm getting more from this book as I go back to it, then lay off a few days, then go back. Its not the greatest book, probably others are better, but its helpful.

Fred Sokolow put music theory in a way that even a newbie like me can understand. His methods allow me to get off the open chords and play more creatively. It's my second Sokolow book and I am very pleased with both of them.

Excellent source for learning the fretboard above the 5th fret. This guy plays multiple stringed instruments. I have learned from his tab/music for 25 years. Don't buy if you're not serious.

I was expecting a little something different. This book is not as straight forward and tab based as I'd hoped it'd be.

Not completely useless for lefthanders or beginners, but pretty close to it...

Excellent scale book. Good for all scale fundamentals. This book will be in your reference library for scales for a long time
