High-End RO System That's (Mostly) Easy to Install, Looks Great, Does the Job
We've been using a basic undercounter water filter system for the past several years, and it's been totally fine. Our city water isn't terrible, and simple two-stage filter systems seem to do a pretty good job of removing the stuff you can taste. But basic filtration systems don't get everything, and we still had to deal with some mineral buildup in our teapots and coffee maker. We figured it was time to upgrade to our first RO system. Really pleased with this one so far. Installation took a while, but it wasn't bad. It took me the better part of a Saturday afternoon - much longer than the 30 minutes claimed on the product page, but that's no surprise. I've installed a couple of basic undercounter filter systems over the years, and the process here was similar, with a few extra steps. I was a bit bummed I couldn't use my existing t-joint (my filter system used a smaller supply tube than this Philips system), so I had to start by swapping that out. Then I swapped out the faucet, which took extra time because the pre-drilled hole in our soapstone countertop was bigger than the locking washer supplied by Philips. Fortunately, I found a way to reuse the old one. Then I had to drill into the drain pipe to allow the system to flush - not something I've ever had to worry about with a regular 'ol filter setup. There were only a couple minor annoyances during install. For one, the documentation said there would be quick connector clips to help lock the water and drain tubes into the unit, but I didn't see any in my kit. (Fortunately, everything seems tight, secure, and leak-free without them.) The product page here mentions that there are dust plugs that need to be removed from the unit before you can insert the tubes, but there doesn't appear to be anything about it in the installation instructions, and it took me a few moments to sort that out. There's also some very vague information in the documentation about some program options - turning on and off "FreshPro?" - and zero further explanation. Fortunately, it's mostly a plug-and-play kind of thing. After connecting the water lines, I powered it up, it went through a flushing cycle, and now it just works. Flow is great and consistent. Water tastes great. So far, no noticeable mineral buildup in the usual places. The whole system is obviously high-end - it looks slick and has great build quality. I'm not normally much of a name brand guy, but I kind like the fact that there's a fancy white box with the Philips name on it under my sink. It's just a water filtration setup, but it looks high tech. A few things to keep in mind, especially if you've never had an RO system before: Firstly, if you have a food disposal, you shouldn't rig up the drain tube to the same pipe. Not an issue if you've got a two-chambered sink (as we do), but if you've got a single-chamber farmhouse sink, your life will get more complicated. Secondly, keep in mind that the unit will need constant power - splitting off from your switched garbage disposal won't do. It also takes up a fair amount of space, so if you've got a fairly deep sink, it's worth measuring ahead of time to make sure everything fits. The system hums a bit when it runs, and it occasionally runs a flushing cycle that causes some draining noises. If you're in the market for a high-end RO system, I think it's hard to go wrong with this one. It's fairly simple to install, it's a nice-looking product, and it works well.

Requires A Dedicated Outlet...
I was really looking forward to this and was eager to install it, but then I learned it needed power. Our sink was made for a disposal, but there isn't one installed at the moment. So, I was a able to use the disposal plug, but it is switched. And, This needs continuous power to do it's thing. So, I have the switch taped in the on position for the time being. But, this isn't a long term solution for us, so we either need to pull the new circuit to the outlet and swap the single for a duplex down there, or go back to a non-powered filter. Wer'e pleased with the unit itself, but it is a bit of a chore in some ways. The basic installation, the plumbing and stuff, was as easy as advertised. But as we have a single basin farmhouse sink, the disposal we're getting will make it hard to drain this (according to the manual) as it doest want to use that drain. So, for that we need to ask a plumber/friend what he thinks to get ideas... We'll see him in the spring, so for now that's up in the air. The unit itself is great, it came with everything we needed in the basic set up, and the filters seem likely to last us a long time. The water is served thru a glass-sized filling spout that is also provided, that requires a hole in the sink or counter. So, we removed our soap dispenser to test this. It fit in that hole perfectly and it is intuitive to use. The water itself is clear, bright and tasty. it makes great ice cubes without any fogging or bubbles. The instructions make a bit of a deal out of the need to do a maintenance cycle if the unit goes unused for a week, but I imagine that other units may have the same issue, but not being Phillips, haven't told us all about it yet? So, as far as I know, this is probably a good thing. The reason for the four star review on such a great filter is, for us, the power cord... I have the idea that we will pull the wire and change the outlet, but I don't know when. So, that may be a thing for folks, like it is for us. This filter is elegant looking, well-made and really well thought-out and I would recommend it to anyone that isn't worried about installing it. I believe it will turn out to be a good, long-term value for us, once we get it properly finished.

Nothing beats RO Water. Compact setup that delivers high GPH without a buffer tank.
I've owned a few RO Systems in the past, including some of the most popular Amazon Brands, and to be honest, the end product is almost always the same, and what i mean by end product i am referring to the filtered water, RO Water is one of those experiences that you'd never forget after you've tasted it for the first time, it's tasteless, refreshing but also has this "empty, refreshing" quality that makes it so unique, pure H2O, without any of those heavy metals, pollutants, and chemicals or parasites, but also no minerals, either beneficial or hazardous. This Phillips brings something different to the table, it is smaller, it is tankless, yet filters more GPH, the smaller signature is a game changer for under sink cabinets with a lot of drain pipes or just little room. Where this Phillips product (if compared to other 5-Stage RO Systems) differ is in the build quality of the product, and its features, and this one is above average, feels more like a premium engineered, yet proprietary with its own filters. Installation and assembly are what's expected of a product like this. Is it crazy hard? No. But if you're not a handy person i would hire somebody to perform the installation as the price to pay from a failure due to installation on a system like this is pretty high. I liked all the components, installation as easy as it gets and no leaks. Overall i am very happy with it, it feels well built, and nothing beats RO water. Recommended.
