Does the volume and tone controls impede strumming the guitar?

does it require a battery? If so what kind?

No it does not required any battery. It is a magnetic pickup that has 6 magnetic pickup one for each string. It is quite a good product and quite reasonable in cost. I am wavering on buying a second on for my next Acoustic, instead of taking it one and off from one guitar to the other.

Will it work with a 12 string guitar?

Yes, it should work as as it does with a 6-string.

im working on a project electric guitar can i modify this to fit in the pickup cavity of an electric guitar? or will it not pick up on the vibration?
