AIR KING 9170 FAN
THIS IS A REALLY WELL MADE, HIGH QUALITY FAN. IT STARTS SLOWLY AND QUIETLY, AND IT RUNS VERY QUIETLY WHILE MOVING A LOT OF AIR. WE USE IT ON OUR BACK PORCH, WHICH IS A 20'x40' AREA ENCLOSED ON THREE SIDES, AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY.UPDATE JUNE 2016: After three years of use, the coating is peeling off of the blade, causing the fan blade to become unbalanced and to vibrate. The fan is located outdoors on a covered patio, so it does not get wet. It is 100+ miles to the ocean, so no marine exposure. Apparently the OEM coating is not very durable, which is disappointing at this price. I will try to clean and repaint the blade, and see if I can eliminate the vibration. If not, I will have to buy a new blade from Air King.

Solid Performer
It's a powerful commercial or industrial brand fan at a reasonable price.

Junk that is repckaged to look brand new. Amazon, your quality is slipping. The last several purchases are BUNK!!
I want my money back. Within two weeks, this AirKing fan was making a loud knocking vibration type noise that is constant. After close inspection of this unit, it was made in 2008 which appears to have been repackaged to appear brand new. Because of this,. I will be very leery to make purchases from you in the future.

Good enough (just)
This fan is hard to get excited about. It moves a lot of air, so we will keep itIt looks strong and industrial from a distanceThe blades seem balanced pretty well.It is somewhat noisy, but it is doing a lot of work.Assembly took a long time due to issues with parts:- The fan shroud was bent in several places, so it had to be straightened with a pliers before assembly (there was no damage to the box.)- The tapped holes in the fan motor to mount the shroud were impossible to start screws in. I chased them with a #10-32 tap, paint and metal came out of the holes, I don't think the threads were just covered with paint, I think the manufacturer used poor tooling and this was the only way to get it together properly.- After handling all of the parts, my hands were covered with black paint flakes. I don't think this is exactly baked on enamel of the highest quality.- The small square head screw that held the blade on the motor shaft was loose in the large cardboard box, luckily stuck in one of the corners. The 1/3 hp motor is stamped Sept / 03. So it is 13 years old coming out of the box in 2016The motor is also labeled as 57% efficient, which I didn't think was still lawful to sell anymore with recent energy regulations for fractional horsepower motors. The base pedestal has a hole for the post, which is much larger than the post. The result when putting the set screw in is a leaning post. The motor box says made in Taiwan, but it is stamped assembled in the USA. The manufacturers website says "This product meets the Made in America requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as a manufactured Good." I'm not sure exactly how that works, but this thing feels like Taiwan/China good enough, not a solid well made product. There weren't a lot of other options, so sales will continue I expect.

I'm very happy with my Air King fan (Update 2021 - Still getting the job done!)
I'm very happy with my Air King fan. My 1953 west-facing corner ac-free apartment with no insulation in Los Angeles is like an easy-bake oven. This fan really moves the air and cools down the entire apartment. Plus, it really looks cool. I had a little trouble assembling because I followed the order of the written instructions and not the drawn figures, and ended up with a super top-heavy fan that I needed another pair of hands to mount into the base assembly. So, don't do that. Follow the order of the numbered figures. Don't follow the order of the written instructions. Also, there's a hole at the bottom of the pipe. That's just there for manufacturing. You don't need to line up the bolt that secures the pipe to the base with the hole in the pipe. The nice people at Air King told me that when I tried and failed to get the bolt in that hole.

Pretty good!
Works pretty well. Better price than most comparable fans. Wish I had opted for the swivel head but this gets the job done.

Not worthy of the name
They call it a "High Velocity Fan", but it not even close. We thought the blade was on backwards, it is so bad.I have bought a lot of fans over the years for my shop. This is the worst. If you want a gentle breeze, then buy it.Otherwise skip it.
