Auto Companion Roof Mounted Aluminium Cycle Bike Carrier Fork Fixing

Fork mounted bike carrier
Using the bike carrier for the first time, found the instructions easy to follow, less than 10 minutes to install, bike felt very secure after mounting it on to the carrier. The carrier could do with some way of locking the front fork clamp as the bike could easily be removed if left unattended. Used the carrier on square roof bars, only little complaint is that the front mounting doesn’t sit square on the roof bar it points up at approximately a 30 degree angle once the rear mounting is attached to the rear roof bar. The carrier could do with a curve in the middle of it to lower the back mounting but at a quarter of the price of a big named bike carrier I’m very happy with it and would certainly buy again if I need another carrier. Bought this bike carrier due to a ferry height restrictions of 2.2 meters, it does the job👍

Simple secure way of carrying bikes
To be honest I was dubious because there are some big brand names out there and I had not heard of auto companion well I must admit I am suprised. The quality is spot on. Carrier was easy to fit. Instructions made sense ! I have just fitted my mountain bike to carrier and it was easy. I am going to buy two more next month once paid lol.I especially like the fact I can lock it

Not impressed with this carrier
I currently own 2 Thule Pro-ride 591 bike carriers, a Mont Blanc carrier. Also I own a Maaxraax (towbar) bike carrier too. This carrier is pitched at half the price of the thule models and it shows. Key operation of the lock was very problematic. When I did eventually open it, the lock is situated high up the carrier.....this makes it a night mare to use when the bike is actually on the roof, unless you have something sporty like a ferrari or lambo. With my MPV - I needed steps to be able to lock and unlock it.The carrier does fit both square bars and aero bars and has T-track adaptors too.All in all - i really feel this is too budget for its own good and is not practical to use in real life

Quality product with badly presented instructions
This is a well-designed, well-made and smart-looking carrier. The instructions are pictorial, with no text at all apart from some numbers. They are easy to follow except that mine came curled two ways, rather screwed up and dog-eared, making them hard to keep flat and hard to read. There are five sheets, not properly squared up, badly stapled together. They should be more neatly presented, in a bag of some kind and rolled one way. The carrier, accessories and instructions then need to be in a box that stops the contents moving around and damaging each other. The front end of the carrier is particularly easy to install if you have tracked bars. It looks more of a performance but straightforward enough to fix using clamps but I haven’t tried that. The back end is clamped to the bar, regardless of whether the bar is tracked.Attaching the bike to the carrier takes as long as installing the carrier. Obviously, it’s best if your bike has a quick-release front wheel. Either way, you finish up with a reassuringly well-fitted roof load. You’re restricted to 50mph though. If you have tracked bars with locks, the carrier will be fairly secure against theft on the bars. With the carrier clamped to the front bar, it will be easier to steal, unscrewing (by hand) four knurled nuts at the front, two at the back. There’s no theft security for the bike on the carrier, but that’s normal, I think - use suitable locks of your own.I’ve never used a roof-mounted carrier before, so can’t compare with other products. This one seems good enough to be worth five stars except that I found the instructions annoying enough to justify deducting one.

Decent bike holder
This is a pretty good bike holder, but I'm struggling to see it's place in the market. I've got Thule roof bars and cycle carriers, and this works well beside them - however, clearly quality is not as high as the Thule products, it generally just has a cheaper feel, though function is just as effective. However, it seems to pretty much the same price as the equivalent Thule product, so I'm struggling to see how it will manage to convince people to go for it instead.
