Can the beds be separated?

By the looks of the pics they can be.

Can the guard rails come off when the beds are separated?

Removing the rails will require some disassembly, but can be done. The bed is engineered so that each feature contributes to its stability, and I can’t judge what impact removal of the guardrail will have.
