understandable popularity, certainly vinegary!
This is the iconic English condiment that is made in The Netherlands by an American company and reads "by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen" (sorry King Charles or perhaps my bottle is not fresh). It is also known as "brown sauce" and is slightly more viscous than ketchup. Vinegar is the forward flavor (flavour) with an almost beef gravy-like follow. Tamarind leads the spice/herbal notes. The descriptions of "Heinz 57 meets catsup" are understandable but HP is a bit more hearty. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of vinegar but acid is necessary for many foods and this will be my 1st choice for a thick acid; it really perked-up my chicken marsala this week!

Worth trying.
I am only giving it four stars because it is hard to earn a five from me. While I am the only person in the family that enjoyed this, I think everyone should try foods from other countries. No, it isn't going to replace mustard, ketchup, or BBQ sauce for me, but it was fun trying it on a bacon butty and fries. I think it is a nice addition to condiments we use every day. It brings a tang and sweetness unlike any other condiment I have in my fridge.

It's decently flavored.
I saw this on a British TV show and decided to try it. They allegedly use it like we Americans use Ketchup. I like the flavor, but it reminds me of a cross between A1 Steak sauce & barbecue sauce, only without the smokinees & a more vinegar flavor. It's okay for a change of pace from normal condiments, but I'll stick to the tried & true Ketchup!

A Popular English sauce that works on some things
A friend from England suggested that I try this sauce that is very popular in England and is probably in every home there. It's been around forever. So I decided to order a bottle to see for myself. I have mixed reviews as an American that likes to try different sauces. The main ingredient is malt vinegar. That might tell you something right there. It is certainly an acquired taste. It is a little bit like our A1 sauce. It is very strong. I have found that it tastes better alone directly on some kind of meat. When I put it on a cheeseburger with cheese and bread, it did not work for me because of the strong malt vinegar taste. And yet, when I put it directly on a plain burger on a plate or a steak, it tasted great. So for me I would say that it does not work on bread, but that is just my taste. It is a thicker sauce. It certainly is quality but the question is: does it work with our American taste-buds? Like I said, directly on the meat or as a dipping sauce. I would say try and see if it works for you. And not everybody in England likes it. Some in England prefer ketchup. But I do think it is worth trying.

Subscribe & Save Replacement Item Expired and Broke
I love HP Sauce. I can't get it through my local grocer anymore, so I've ordered it through Subscribe and Save every two months. This month, it said that my regular-size bottle (255g) was out of stock and would be replaced with the squeeze bottle, which is a little larger. Instead, the package arrived today via UPS/Amazon from a different supplier. I opened it up, and the bottle was broken and àlso expired. I Love HP, and I love Heinz. Not happy with the switch of suppliers through Amazon, and that it won't be replaced by either.
