Perfect knife for me.
I've been using the Wenoka squeezLock SS knife the last couple of years. Small, sharp and no rust. Seemed like it would do the trick until I stuck it in a fish to quiet it down and the blade bent like hot butter. The squeeze lock sure wasn't a sure lock, having lost two. The blade was also too short to safely dispatch lion fish from pole spear. In all, it was good for cutting and not much more. I wanted a bigger and sturdier knife that was razor sharp but could still be used as a tool for prying, dispatching fish and whatever other contingencies came along and didn't cost a fortune to replace if lost. The Cressi Borg fit all these requirements admirably. It's medium sized, (trust me, I've been diving for forty years and this is not what I would call big), thin profiled to easily impale fish but thick enough to use without fear of bending or breaking during other chores. It came razor sharp. Be aware that this knife is offered in the harder 420 stainless which will hold an edge better but will rust more easily. It also comes in the 304 stainless which is more rust resistant. Since the biggest complaint about this knife is rust, I suggest you get the 304 offered by Amazon. For some reason the steel hilt is of a different grade stainless and will have a tendency to show a little discoloring. The knife easily disassembles for maintenance. Before initial use, coat all metal surfaces with a light layer of silicone grease and you will not have a rust problem. After dive, take it apart, rinse with fresh water, let dry, and put back together. Knife will last rust free until you lose it. At $35.00 , no financial pain if lost. Lose a titanium and it hurts. I'm not that crazy about the sheath. Seems it could have been made narrower and more ergonomically designed for comfort and fit but what do you expect for 35 bucks. Locking mechanism seems a little iffy but so far giant strides or roll backs haven't been enough to dislodge knife. One hand release works quite well. It may not be in fashion anymore but I feel a lot more prepared to face any contingency underwater with a real diving tool strapped to the inside of my leg.

I'm pretty happy with this purchase
I'm pretty happy with this purchase. There are obviously higher quality knives but I think this is a great knife for the price. it snaps into the case securely and the rubber leg straps hold it tight without slipping. The blade was sharp enough to shave the hair off my arm out of the box. I havn't done much cutting with it so I don't know how well it will hold that edge. My favorite thing about it is that you can unscrew the cap on the handle and take the plastic handle off it so you can be sure no salt water gets left behind in the handle and your knife won't be a big clump of rust next time you open your dive bag. All in all I would call it a good knife that you'll get plenty of use out of and at that price it won't ruin your day if you lose it on the sea floor.

So close to perfect
I got this as a low cost first diving knife. It's been on 3 free-dives with me now, each one about 2 hours long. I'm impressed with the overall quality. Two small complaints kept this from being a 5 star review. The blade and pommel seem to be a high quality stainless. There are no signs of rust or corrosion on these parts and the blade takes a decent edge. The handle is very comfortable to handle and we'll designed The hilt however seems to be a cheap chrome plated piece of steel and had rust spots on it the first time I got out of the water. I'm getting tired of polishing and oiling this piece everytime I get home. I think I'll just let this piece become the death of the knife and upgrade at that time. The sheath is decent and easy to get the knife out in the water. My only complaint here is that the release latch has loaded up with sand on every dive. This can prevent it from snapping back into the locked position after returning the knife. It's difficult to manually lock in the blade with gloves on and I'm afraid I might accidentally donate this blade to Poseidon sooner than later. All in all it does the job without breaking the bank. I think it's reasonably priced and if it weren't for the latching issue and cheap metal glued to quality metal this knife would be a steal.

Great tool, stays put.
Great buy. I bought this knife without ever owning anything similar before, and was somewhat hesitant to spend the money for it. I use this knife specifically for snorkeling trips, since we usually do it in groups involving several dive flags and ropes going everywhere. The knife compartment stays put and has never come undone or un-clipped. I'm usually able to strap both top and bottom straps below my knee. The knife has a great gripping handle and feels and looks very nice. It came in fairly sharp but not to the level I like, in a few minutes I had mine razor sharp and ready to go. I take the knife with me on all my snorkeling trips, as it serves as a tool in case of an emergency. It also gives me a false sense of security in case I was attacked by a sea creature. :)

Pretty Good Knife
I just started snorkling and diving and needed a knife. I needed one that was easy to retrieve and large enough to handle any task. This knife is great. It has a great release mechanism. Handle is solid. I did not notice this before, but you can take it apart easily just by screwing the end cap off too clean it after a dive. It does rust like all knives if exposed to salt water, so wash off after each use and dry. It comes with leg leash that needs to be cut to size.

Good knife but sheath needs a better retention system
Great knife and decent quality leg straps. However the retention mechanism only works if very clean. If you walk on the beach and sand touches it you have a good chance to lose the knife. I used it 4-5 times and always removed it, rinsed it and dried the knife after each dive. It did not rust but if you ignore these basic steps this like almost all other knifes will rust. I always dry my knife outside the sheath until the sheath is also completely dry,

High quality and made in Taiwan. My first diving knife was also Cressi; bought it 1998. I used ordinary grease to cover the whole blade for protection. After hundreds of salty water diving still has no even a dot of rust until now. Looks like a brand new. Now I used white lithium grease spray for this knife. Straps long enough, and it is well balanced. It is sharp and it cuts the ropes and fishing lines very well. Absolutely recommended for SCUBA divers.

Contento con mi compra, buen cuchillo, buenos materiales, buena funda, solo hay que afilarlo y listo! Un poco enfadoso de afilar pero es normal por el tipo de acero

super sharp knife with a great feel in the hands and good size for maneuverability and dexterity underwater when diving. only downside is the sheath is made of really cheap plastic I could see breaking in the future. awkward and cheap button has to be pressed to unsheathe and the rubber straps that come with it seem a little cheap as well. The knife itself is great though!!!
