⸻ Title: Deep, Rich Black Hair Color
The Madison Reed Radiant Hair Color Kit in Pescara 2NNA delivers beautiful, deep black results. It provides full gray coverage without the harsh smell of ammonia, leaving my hair soft, shiny, and healthy-looking. The application is easy to follow, and the color lasts longer than many other brands I’ve tried. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a salon-quality color at home.

Quality Hair Color
Easy to use and true to color! Long lasting and doesn’t seem to fade as quickly as some others. Very pleased with the quality and ease of use. Packaged very well and finally gloves that fit! This company takes pride in their products!

Favorite hair dye, smells good, best color
I love these hair color kits. It comes with everything you need to dye your hair at home. I like that it comes with extra little touches like a hair cap and barrier cream so you don’t get dye on your skin. The gloves are good quality and they actually fit and stay on my hands. I’ve used kits in the past that provide huge, cheap gloves that can make the process so difficult. My hair is always so soft and shiny after using this dye and it smells so good! It also does a good job of covering any greys that I’ve got. This has been my go to for years now.

Might be great for short hair or hair not previously colored. For me? Awful.
I used Light Golden Red, &7NCG, Genova Red. On the package, the color looked like an exact match for my original hair color. (I have just enough grey, here & there throughout my hair, to want to cover it... for now, anyway. Vanity... right? lol ) I fell in love with Madison Reed's packaging and the thoughtfulness shown in this very complete hair color kit. The messaging in it dazzled me, as well. Using the product, I didn't care for the smell of it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some ammonia-based hair color products. So far, so good. In addition, I was impressed by how much hair color was included. Even with long, thick hair, I was able to cover everything from the roots to the very longest tips of my hair, and do so completely. The included shampoo and conditioner were both lavish and generous. Again, as someone with very thick hair, this was appreciated. But then, fresh from the shower, I looked in the mirror. Umm... It looked like the color coverage wasn't consistent. Not even close. Worse, when my hair was dry, the color at the top of my head was spectacular, but starting at about ear level, the color was much darker. Indoors, it looks almost black. On someone as fair-skinned as me, the effect was jarring. Suddenly, every freckle and laugh line seemed more obvious. This was NOT flattering. Oddly, the ends of my hair barely took any color at all. That was fine, because naturally colored hair is usually lighter (sun bleached) at the ends. In the accompanying photo, my head is tilted, so I'm looking up. You're seeing the top of my head as well as my back. Also, that picture was taken on a slightly overcast day, so the variations in color aren't due to extreme lighting. It looks far worse indoors, but I think the photo conveys the essense of the problem. Note: It's been a few years since I was a hair model, but I picked up a lot of hair coloring tips from the pros. So, I'm still mindful of the importance of coloring my hair thoroughly and consistently, and following package directions - to the letter - for the best results. In other words, it's not as if I smothered the top of my head with hair dye, and just loosely spread the rest of my hair with far lighter coverage. Likewise, I didn't douse the middle (now darkest) band of my hair with extra color, or omit coloring the ends, either. To me, it looks like this hair color should not be used on long, previously colored hair. I'd ask for a refund if I had anything to return to the seller, but - of course - I used the complete package. So, at best, that was a waste of $30. I'm going to wait a week so my hair has time to recover, and then I'll be using an "oops!" products to remove the Madison Reed hair color. Fingers crossed, it'll restore how my hair looked before using Madison Reed's hair color. (If that doesn't work, Plan B is to streak my hair with blonde. At worst, it'll look "artsy.") I'll agree that the Madison Reed hair color at the top of my head looks exactly as I'd hoped. It's very close to the color shown on the product's packaging. The probem is: The rest of my hair looks awful. If your hair is short - and, preferably, has never been colored before - you may love Madison Reed. For me, this was an extremely distressing experience. Fortunately, I work at home. This week, only my family will see my hair. If I go out, I'll wear a hat. Then, my hair will look oddly dark with almost blonde sun-bleaching at the ends. Short-term, I'm okay with that. I was tempted to give this product two stars because the packaging was a delight to read, and the included gloves, cap, shampoo, and conditioner were wonderful extras. However, I'm so disappointed by the product itself, I have to give this one star, and share my experience with others, so they don't make a similar mistake.

5.5NNA darker than expected
Complete kit. True to color. For me, this shade was much darker than other brands, almost seems closer to a 4 vs 5. Normally, I use Loreal 5A (ash). Madison Reed 5.5NNA is much darker (per hubby almost black). Forewarning those out there that wish to stay closer to medium brown vs very very dark brown. Great dye and leaves hair very shiny.

Best Ammonia Free Color I've tried
Love this Light Ash Brown formula. My hair is "grey" (actually white now) and this ammonia free color covers my grey completely. What I really like is that the color lasts much longer than other ammonia free colors I have tried. Many ash brown ammonia free products use henna in the formula which results in red or brassy undertones. This product stays smokey (ash) even when color starts to fade. This product is gentle on the hair and scalp, more so than other ammonia-free hair color products I have used. No itchy bumps on scalp with this product and longer lasting results. Although Madison Reed is twice the cost, it is well worth the money.

Salon type kit
Omg. So if you’re like me and have absolutely no time for a salon visit, and prefer to save the money this kit is amazing. It’s like a salon experience in a box. Pros: -I hate color on my skin after my hair is dyed, in salon or out. This kit comes with a very effective pre and post color treatment to keep your skin dye free. -the gloves are a lot higher quality then you usually get and are actually comfortable to use. -the shampoo and confectioners have a minty, earthy smell. Very reminiscent of the high end spas. It is relaxing and I love that I don’t have that newly dyed hair smell and feel good at the same time. Cons: -the shampoo and conditioner are nothing reusable tubes like many diy dye kits. So it’s a one time thing, even if they give extra. Overall I really enjoyed this kit and will be using it again.

Not Worth $35
First off you’re paying for marketing, not performance. For 3X the cost of say, Clairol Nice & Easy, you get the hair color and a tiny packet of one time use, shampoo and conditioner. (Clairol conditioner comes in a 5 use reclosable tube.) After using this hair color, my hair felt all rubbery and dry. I can see why they included shampoo in the box. You really want to wash this stuff out of your hair when the process is complete. There’s nothing special about either the shampoo or conditioner. You could just use your own. Color came out OK. Can’t say if it matches the picture on the box, because there isn’t one. Even leaving it on for the full 45 minutes, this stuff struggles to penetrate my grey roots. Not a good sign. How long does it last? Well, after just three weeks, the color has faded to about 2 shades lighter. It faded more on my roots and my hair still feels weird weeks after coloring. I washed it out when the time was up, so this isn’t a case of leaving it on beyond the recommended time. The verdict? Not worth $35 for such a poor performer. If you insist on this type of formulation, I would suggest Schwarzkopf Simply Color Hair Color for around $12. It lasts just as long, costs a third of the price and it doesn’t come a plain cardboard box that looks like you got it off of Temu in China.
