Great book!
If you're interested in building a yurt I recommend this book! If you're planning on just living off grid this book probably wouldn't benefit as much...but it still has some good info in it. My husband and I are seriously thinking of building a yurt on our property in the Wind River Range Like the author we would want electric, water and sewer. The author gives great tips so your pipes don't freeze and some other great info.

Enjoyable as a narrative, NOT as a how-to
If you're looking for a definitive guide to purchasing and erecting a yurt, you'll probably want to choose another book. But if (like me) you've always been intrigued by the prospect of living in a yurt and just want to "try on" the idea in your head, Hatch is a good place to start. He writes like a good friend sitting and telling you about his yurt experience over coffee. It's a short read and it helped me wrap my head around the kinds of things I'd need to consider when and if I get serious about getting my own yurt. It demystifies the process and makes it seem do-able (though zoning and such varies from place to place). I'm glad I read it.

Awesome for a new yurt owner
I am building my yurt in the spring and this book gave a lot of great information on what do do and accomplish before starting the build

Wish it had more info.
I read this entire book in about an hour. It's okay, but I wish there was more useful info. The author doesn't have a lot of experience with yurts. It is just the story of his first yurt build.

Lots of generic info but little actually practical info.

This book is fine for people that know nothing about construction.
For the price, I had expected to receive more information on the nuances of actual yurt construction. If you are looking to build an authentic mobile yurt, I suggest you seek another author.

Misleading title, only containg experience sharing from someone in US who bought a Yurt
Personally I was disappointed with this book and the title "Practical Yurts - building and living in a low cost alternative structure" is very misleading. The author shares his experience on buying and assembling a yurt he bought, not really building one. It goes through the steps required to get licenses and electricity which are very specific to his place in Portage, USA and almost irrelevant for someone living in another county/state/country/continent.The book is written almost as the author was talking, sometimes a bit strange to read. The lack of clear diagrams and pictures makes somehow hard to follow the explanations on how the author solved some problems.I would expect to see this information on a blog online or at most on a downloadable e-book, not in a 11€ book format. If you live in USA in general (Portage in particular), have no wish to build your own yurt but to to buy one and have an extra 10$ then this book might bring you some value. Everyone else just skip it.

Useful diy book
Useful and interesting. Shows how easy they are to construct when the design is explained so clearly.

Not for the UK
Couple of things with this book. Firstly based on American planning system so not really helpful for UK. The practical information contained within it was also lacking and didn’t really help. Overall not so great but gives a few clues to building a yurt.
