I have found this style used the most for people into serious microscopy. Its not low quality looking. Its beyond functional but it's a nice accessory to the hobby. The wood is far superior to the plastic and it looks so much better. Firstly, the seller shipped the product faster than any of the 10+ items I ordered. And when we're all anxiously awaiting our items that is a plus. 2nd it was packaged with a lot of care as you can see. 3rd. The price is tiny compared to the dexter replicates being sold. The red background gives you a reminder of the blood stained slides and I think the red pops beautifully. Save the difference for the microscope. And maybe tell your kids about dexter they may think that's pretty cool. Lastly, this is a good thing or bad depending on your needs.. These are almost all real wood, if not all. That means two boxes won't look alike. That's a wood thing not a seller thing. Even the very pricy dexter replicates wont all look the same. But you could stain them i would think. If you need it to match perfectly plastic would be more predictable. I find the unpredictability makes it even more special and unique. One is not prettier and dark or light they are still extremely nice and seem exceptionally durable. I couldn't see ordering any better box for our slides. The double latch is very very nice and feels very secure yet it opens very responsively. This may not fit a smaller young kid premade slide but seems to fit standard size, which eventually you'll want. And your kids will eventually want to make their own slides which are cheap to buy and allow them to see living things which will help enhance their love of science. Kuddos to the seller for being great as well in every way. Fast, well packaged, affordable and actually a very nice product. I think you'll be pleased. I included pictures in case that helps. Looks aside, quality is excellent.

There are many flaws included. Was not what it looked like in the picture, which is dissappointing because I needed this as I was trying to make something out of it. Not recommended.

For Dexter fans this is a hit!!! Perfect box for keeping slides or anything little in.

Good quality. I used this product to make a custom blood slide box replica from Dexter. It was relatively easy to take apart and change the hinges. They are nailed in rather than screwed, so it is more difficult, but they bend rather easily, so you can just take a flat head screwdriver to it and get all the hinge pieces off. I also removed the red plastic sheet on the bottom of the inside, as I liked the natural wood look better. Again, it was very easy to get at. The two walls on either side are in place using a singular nail, so you can take a screwdriver again and squeeze it in between the plastic and the edge of the wood and push the nail out, freeing every piece of the inside. I bought some slides, fake blood, new hinges/latch, and stain to put everything together. Overall, I am very satisfied with the finished result. I was able to do everything for around $60, which is far better than replicas for sale online.
