How Binoculars WorkThere are two basic types of binoculars: porro prisms and roof prisms.1. Porro-prism binocularsPorro-prism binoculars have a right-angled bend between the objective lens and the eyepiece, which makes them form an M shape when standing on their objective lenses. Porros rely on an external focus mechanism, which causes the eyepieces to slide forward or backward along an external tube. Q: How good is the stability of these when hand-held? I've not used anything over 10x handheld and it seems like it could be pretty shakey...

It's not that good, over time I developed some skills to hold it steady, but it's hard.

Most certainly! You should have absolutely NO issues in viewing objects in that range.
