Do you have to assemble

Yes, we did have to assemble the glider but it was very easy and the directions were easy to follow! It took my husband about 25 minutes to get it assembled and for me enjoying it!!

How much assembly is required?

Minimal assembly required. My 18 year old son put it together in less than 30 minutes. Maybe 10 screws. The major components of the rocker are pre-assembled.

What is the material in the taupe swirl? is it microfiber? is there a shine to the material or is it flat?

The fabric on this chair is not a microfiber. It might be a Cotten/polyester blend? It is not a super soft fabric but very study and easy to clean! There is no shine, just a flat material.
