Beautiful
I almost forgot I had this . I found it today hidden in the kitchen lol. My 9 year old daughter wasn't too interested. But i thought it was cool. You don't get to open oysters with real pearls in them every day. Once i rinsed them and the shell they look pretty. I did it outside just in case it smelled when opening the plastic. It didn't smell hardly at all. There were some hints of the ocean smell but that's to be expected lol Very cool. Thank you for giving people the opportunity to open of these.

More than satisfied - fun!
Purchased this with the intentions of making jewelry for my partner and family. I had read that there was a smell when first opening the package -- I found this to be slightly true but it wasn't overwhelming and went away once I rinsed off the oyster and pearls and discarded the insides. The oyster was difficult to open and requires a tool such as a screwdriver or butter knife. It helps to slide whichever tool inside and slowly run along the inside edge to not crack the shell when opening. I had to search through the inside of the shell and remove the pearls from a soft film that was holding some in place. We received 23 pearls in total. Once all cleaned I noticed that there are about 3 different shades ranging from soft pink to a soft purple. They are also not perfectly round and different sizes but beautiful non the less.

MOST REPUGNANT SMELL EVER EXPERIENCED
First, I'm an experienced Crime Scene Cleaner- think about that for a second. This is the 2nd time buying one of these from this seller. First time- not too much of a smell, normal smell for an oyster- arrived sealed with hardly any smell at all. This time around, I dry-heaved about 50 times while opening and removing pearls w/my 8 yr old twins. Even BEFORE opening it, it smelled DISGUSTING. First time I bought one, we had fun removing the many pearls inside & was a great experience. This time, I seriously wanted to give up on the whole thing. One of my girls wouldn't even come near it. We opened it outside & I had to step away from it, dry-heaving SEVERAL times. The next day, today, I want to puke every second bc the smell is not completely gone from my sinuses. I CANNOT express how disappointed I am over this. I should have sent it back immediately. (And I keep wondering how badly the Amazon driver's truck smelled just from transporting it!!) Lesson learned. I will seriously question purchasing one of these oyster shells from this seller again, and I will definitely seek out a different seller if I do want to buy another in the future. **SEAL YOUR FRESH PRODUCTS BETTER!** I've never been so repulsed. Can't say that enough. Again......crime scene cleaner.

Pleased with the result; fun experience
Really pleased with the outcome. Shells were intact, no odor, overall fun experience. Pearls were on the small side as other reviewers mentioned, but having that expectation in mind it made for a fun anniversary gift. Pictured are the pearls from an order of 2.

Pretty neat
Ok so first of all - the smell. There was not really much of a smell. The only thing I really smelled was like that chemical smell you smelled in science class when you dissected an earthworm (or a frog). It’s not overpowering but if you are sensitive to stuff like that you might want to just cover your nose with a good old covid mask or something. It wasn’t bad- definitely not fishy or anything like it could have been. Second of all, little disappointed in the size of my shell. The video shows this massive shell, mine was like half that size. We got about 26 pearls and one “blister pearl” on the shell. The pearls were pretty small overall. Thirdly, the pearls aren’t iridescent or anything like that. They seem a bit dull. But overall it was a neat experience to show the kids. I had been reading about the difference between man-made pearls versus natural pearls so it was interesting to see how it works. Fourthly, have some kind of pocket knife on hand or something. It was harder to open the shell than I had imagined. A child could definitely not do it. Also WEAR GLOVES - who knows what kind of nasty germs are inside these shells 😝 Also delivery was super fast!

Huge size difference
So I ordered two of these I enjoyed the first one so much that I turned around and ordered another one. The size comparison of the pearls is a huge difference. I was honestly thinking I was gonna be able to make like a pearl necklace. The second order that I opened today had really small pearls. Don’t know if that’s a normal thing or not, but it was a bit of a disappointment. Considering the ones I opened yesterday were a lot bigger.

Great activity with my 5yr old
What a great activity with my 5 year old son! This is any authentic oyster with pearls that’s great for kids. It hasn’t been doctored in any way. The pearls in there are real pearls produced by the oyster you’re opening. My son has been watching a lot of oyster opening videos and in general he’s interested in anything from the sea so this was a perfect gift for him. It didn’t smell at all and we may have gotten lucky on that. He found 21 pearls and was so happy. Pearls are not the greatest quality (didn’t expect it to be), but it’s sufficient for my son who had a blast picking them out of the oyster meat. Well worth the money and also a great party activity for mermaid or sea themes.
