GE FQSVF Drinking Water System Replacement Filter Set

I have been using this kind of filter for more than 5 years, it worked pretty well (minus 1 star for the ever increasing price and general filter cartridge replacement availability). I am very sensitive to water taste (I would prefer to drink distilled water if I can afford to), and my taste bud told me that this filter does a good job in removing enough dissolved matter for me to like drinking the filtered water out of it. My filter housing unit use a pair of this filter cartridge connected in series. Here is how I tried to save some money using these filter cartridges in pair (with slot 1 filter cartridge is the one receiving the incoming water source directly and slot 2 filter cartridge receiving water from slot 1 filter cartridge):1. replace the filter cartridges only when the water flow slow to unbearable rate;2. move the slot 2 filter cartridge to slot 1 and replace slot 2 filter cartridge with a new oneThe reason the water flow slowed down over time is because slot 1 filter cartridge did its job in filtering out dissolved matter and thus getting clotted. But slot 2 filter cartridge receiving cleaner water remaining mostly not clotted. We don't want to waste slot 2 filter cartridge as it can still do some useful filtering job. So when it is time for filter replacement, it is time for slot 2 filter cartridge to move to slot 1 to do the first stage filtering and let the new filter cartridge do the second stage filtering, so you only need to use one new filter cartridge at each replacement cycle.

Beware! The product leaked water from the seam. I have used the prior version of this product for years, now it appears that they have a quality control problem. One of the two cartridges leaked from the seam. Fortunately, I caught the leak before it flooded my whole kitchen and cause water damage to the structure. I installed a new one and that one looks ok. If you hear a hissing sound and have low water flow with these, make sure it is not leaking. I now keep the unit above a plastic tub, as I expect it will leak again based on other reviews. I hate to switch to another brand ​because I have been happy with these in the past.

This set WORKS WELL with GE FQSLF - I cannot understand why the manufacturer creates such a mystery around this topic when so many people bought the FQSLF which is now discontinued: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G35L3W/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1The GE page has conflicting info. at the top of the page says that this model DOES WORKS WELL with GE FQSLF, but the Q&A section explains that it will not fit and the literature detail also omits the fact that it is indeed compatible. I hope this review helps others that are wasting their time trying to find replacement cartridges.

We recently purchased a set of filters from Amazon LLC (not from some no name sellers) & the water flow is several times slower than our pre-existing GE filters. Evidently, the center hole on top of the new filters are much smaller (see attached picture). Can this be the reason why waterflow is so slow? Am I getting genuine GE filters on Amazon?Amazon website suggests that I contact GE directly for support. Don't waste your time. I spent several days going back and forth with GE. I have discovered that the FQSVF filters I have purchased from Amazon are knock offs. The first clue was that water flowed much more freely after installing them. At first this seemed like a good thing, but then I ordered a set directly from GE and find that these have the same old water flow as my previous GE purchased filters. Why would water flow more quickly? Only because they are not filtering as much.I called GE who could only say that since Amazon was not an authorized vendor they can not guarantee the authenticity of these filters.Another difference between genuine GE and knock-off Amazon FQSVF filters is that the filter housing of the GE is made of a white matte plastic while the Amazon use a glossy white plastic.BE AWARE! Stay away from Amazon if you are looking for the real thing. You can save money with Amazon but why bother if the filters are not actually filtering?

I replace these in about 10 minutes so extremely easy to use as I have been using for years. Also as one of the other folks pointed out, these filers take out more then taste and other contaminants as they take out a lot of VOC and an assortment of other harmful chemicals. So to me, not worth saving $12 - 15 over the course of 10 - 14 months We live in CA so state law all the water coming in has to be tested but we have had our city water tested before and some chemicals may be over the "suggested" PPM levels. Also they tell you to replace every 6 months or when the red light comes on the filter reminder which is on a 6 month battery timer which can short out or not be accurate, I replace them when the water flow starts to slow down, then you know you know your filters need to be replaced. That is usually 10 - 14 months for our household of 3 people since we have a filter at the sink and the the filters on the drinking water coming out of the fridge. My only gripe is that GE tells you to lube the gaskets with food grade silicon grease which they DON'T include so you need to buy a tube of that separately. Why not include the tube with the filters?? They still work fine without putting the Silicon grease on but it may be tougher to get them off later on.

I used to buy from GE and the price increases so much that it makes no sense to buy this replacement filter. Water quality is not as good as the old one few yrs ago.
