At first I had some problems setting it up. Once I gave it a little time to turn on and boot up everything went smoothly and it works great. It’s a good buy. Just be patient, watch some online videos of how to set it up. Don’t give up, it’s worth it. Avoid the use of alcohol during initial set up.

I just received the pi-star hotspot today. It was surprisingly easy to set up. The instructions were emailed by the seller ahead of shipping and not sent along with the product. However, I did not use the instructions as there are plenty of YouTube videos that explain in detail how to set up a pi-star hotspot. After about 3 hours taking my time to carefully set it up, I was able to use it successfully. Quite an amazing little product! Well done.

Wonderful addition to my ham shack. My local DMR repeater is a bit far away for my handheld to reach, but with this hotspot, I can work everywhere I want through DMR and D-Star! I can even take it with me if I connect to my phone as a wifi hotspot. You can find a cheaper hotspot, but you won't find a ready to go package as good as this for the price.

Be patient, there are no paper instructions included in the delivery. The email they send you after purchasing contains the instructions. It is a video, spoken in broken English by an oriental guy with Chinese writing. I watched it several times before I caught all the correct steps. The hotspot works when everything is setup correctly. You must create or edit your codeplug to broadcast on the same settings as the hotspot and only use TS 2, TS1 is not allowed on hotspots.

SD card was broken. I would love to say that I know how well this thing works, but I can't do anything with a broken SD card. Terrible experience with this gadget. Way overpriced for the aggravation of the whole setup process. This is garbage!!!Update: I was finally able to load the software onto a new SD card, I had to buy one because the seller wouldn't send a new one. I did all of the work that I paid the seller to do. I finally got the hotspot working!! It worked only an hour or two and now it doesn't do anything.Please!!!! Steer clear of this item and this seller!!!

I am a technology professional so I'm not "new". Followed the directions and watched several videos before I even tried to set up this hotspot. After doing several troubleshooting steps to include wiping it out and starting over again it never would join up on my network. The display never came up. There was a solid green light and one slowly blinking amber light on the board. Pretty expensive "light show". Even that was fairly underwhelming. I am NOT impressed or pleased.

When I buy an item, I like for it to be ready to work when I open it up. This product does not do that. It has an 8 GB card that you will need to write data on. That requires that you have or buy a TF reader. When I went back to read the description, I still found no mention of that. There is also no discussion or diagram to let you know where on the unit to find the card and you might just damage something while looking for it.So I went ahead and purchased a TF reader. I then followed all of the instructions. The item never worked. The screen never powered up. What a waste of time and money. I don't know if I can get a refund.

This is my 3rd DMR hotspot but first one from this company. The other two hotspots were easy to setup. This one setup fine but would not receive anything from the DMR network. I tried calling customer support, (worthless), I watched several YouTube videos, (worthless) finally I had no choice but to return this item. Don’t waste your time, it’s NOT ready to go “out of the box”. You’ll need to complete the programming on the card and then go into the dashboard / configuration setting to get it to work and pray that it works correctly, which mine did not.
