Sometimes one idea can make a big difference in your life
After two unsuccessful knee operations (on the same knee) and a couple a rounds of physical therapy, I still had a problem: a big cyst on the outside of my knee and lots of swelling when I walked more than 45 minutes. The MRI said I needed more surgery. Not good. After hearing about Marc from a friend and getting a thumbs-up from my personal physician (who knows him), I went to Marc for a consultation. He was friendly and helpful and told me my knee was a good one and didn't require surgery. He suggested prolotherapy and gave me a copy of this book. He also gave me his cell number and told me to call him anytime day or night if I had any questions (when was the last time your doctor did that?).I was considering prolotherapy, so I read the book. In one of the early chapters, Marc suggests that swelling is the body's signalling mechanism; it tells it where to go to work rebuilding tissue. He further indicates that taking anti-inflammatory drugs and icing the joint after walking interferes with the body's healing processes. "Aha!", I thought to myself, "This is a testable hypothesis" and stopped doing the drugs and the icing. In a few weeks my knee was much better and within months, it was almost perfect. Now, about 8 months later, I've completed two grueling vacations, with many hours a day of strenuous hiking, and I rarely think about my knee. So, the bottom line is that I really don't know whether prolotherapy works or not (since I didn't have to do it), but what I do know is that a few paragraphs in Marc's book did more for me than 5 years of surgery and physical therapy. This man really seems to know what he's talking about.
