Absolutely Fantastic
I'm a tea drinker, coffee has always posed problems for my stomach, however tea has not. So it's the way I usually get my caffeine fix. it used to be that I would fire up the tea kettle on the stove and boil up enough water in the morning to make my cup of tea. But, there were some days I was in a rush and would forget to get the kettle going and find myself without tea when I had to race off to work. This hot water maker solved that problem for me.A local tea shop had recommended this device and I did a fair amount of looking and reading before I ultimately purchased this. By the time I got around to buying it I was pretty sure I was going to like it. After using it these past two winters I found it far exceeded my expectations. So much so that I purchased one for my parents at Christmas. They have quickly become fans of it as well. One of the best features is that you can select the temperature of the water. There are four temperature settings you can keep it at and it will maintain the water temperature constantly at that temperature. I personally have taken to setting mine at 208 degrees which is ideal for the types of tea and hot chocolate that I like to make. I found that lower temperatures were not properly brewing my tea varieties and I was therefore not getting the proper flavor. I know from experience that other tea varieties do require lower temperatures to brew properly and so if you are drinking one of those, you would ideally want to keep the temperature lower.Dispensing hot water is a two button process. You first have to press the unlock button and then press the pour button. This makes it difficult to accidentally pour hot water when you are just moving the device around. You can press another button to change the speed with which the water is dispensed to a lower speed. This could be helpful if you're trying to hit a particular mark in a measuring cup or container. The power cord is held in place with magnets. So if the device gets bumped or the cord gets snagged it will easily disconnect. This is a very helpful feature for refilling as well. I simply pull the device out from the wall and the cord disconnects as it is held in place by another appliance. Then I top off the water, and put reseat the cord as I put it back in place.Any time you refill the dispenser it is going to boil the water before dropping down to your selected temperature. The temperature climbs pretty quickly and is easy to see on the display. Once it has decided it has reached its full boiling temperature it will serenade you. Probably not the best idea to fill this up if someone is napping in the same room as they may have their nap interrupted by the song. There is absolutely no way to turn off this serenading. Which can be a little frustrating, but you get used to it and just plan accordingly. My parents did tell me that they noticed their electric bill went up when they started using it. I personally have not done a detailed analysis of how much power it consumes, but knowing that it is boiling and heating water all day long it does make sense that you would be paying more on your electric bill.If you find yourself like me not using it much during the summer months I would recommend emptying it and disconnecting it. It's also a great time to do a little cleaning to remove any hard water buildup that may have occurred. If you go through a lot of hot water making tea or hot chocolate then this is a fantastic investment. (It also helps when you need a cup of boiling water to make jello.)

Where have you been all my life?
I'm a big green tea drinker. I was stuck with microwaving my water and trying to guess the temperature. This usually ended up with me getting either lukewarm tea or yellow, disgusting tea. I now do not have that problem with this neat little contraption! The inside is stainless steel with a Teflon-like coating. There will be a plastic smell the first time you use it and I'm guessing it's coming from the spout, but don't worry. After draining it a few times (I had to dump out 5 liters of hot water), the smell will go away. I was a little bit worried about the Teflon, since I am not a big fan of eating the stuff, but there's no reason for you to ever even put your hand inside this thing as you're supposed to dump some citric acid in it and let it clean itself. No scratches, no problem. The coating is there to keep mineral buildup from occurring. The water level indicator is super cool on this thing and it will tell you how much water is in the pot or if you need to refill it. There's a timer so that you can set it for six to ten hours later, which is handy if you want to wake up and use it. It doesn't take long to boil at all -- usually something along the lines of 30 minutes. It does, however, take a long time to cool down to the lower temperatures, so if you're using this for green tea, you may want to set it to boil six hours after you go to sleep instead of eight or ten.It swivels, so you can angle it so the steam isn't pointed at your cabinets while it's on. It will shut off automatically if there's no water in the pot and it has a few nice features such as lowering the temperature before boiling so there's less steam coming out of it. It's a handy little product and I totally recommend getting the larger sized ones because once you have it, you'll use it a lot more than you think you will.

Super handy and great kitchen appliance.
Love this. Why didn't I buy this sooner? I drink hot green tea all day long and use to use an electric kettle and wait. I constantly had to refill the kettle too. This device gives me hot water immediately. I also love the temperature setting, which I set mine to 195 so it's good for brewing tea and you can drink it immediately because it's not boiling hot. Also, I end up refilling this about every 1.5 days. The item is pretty well made, Japanese design but made in China. I like that the item can rotate like a lazy suzy and the lid can detach and you can wash the inside. The cord is 'magnetic', so if it gets caught, i just comes off easily. There is a safety feature, which stops kids from hurting themselves, you have to press the unlock button and then the dispense button. The window in the front is very handy to see if there's enough water.

Top quality product
I have had this product for over 12 years now, in constant use. I was introduced to Zojirush through my workplace, where one of these pots is kept in the kitchen,is left on 24/7, and is often left to boil dry (i.e., it's abused). It is one of the most indestructible appliances I've seen. The Zojirushi has 3 temperature settings and a timer feature to conserve electricity by turning the pot off for 6 to 10 hours at a time. Hot water dispenses at two speeds, at the touch of a button.Periodic cleaning is required for scale build up. You don't have to buy the expensive little packages of citric acid from Zojirushi to clean it. You can buy bulk Citric Acid and add 2 tbsp to a full pot of hot water when you set the cleaning cycle (don't try to clean the pot using cold water): no scrubbing necessary. When the cleaning cycle finishes (the cleaning symbol will stop cycling and be steady on), first dispense some of the hot water to clean the hot water outlet; then rinse the pot and dispense a full pot of clean water through it (I run the whole pot into the sink). You can then refill it and let the water return to boil. This water boiler is definitely one of the more expensive brands on the market, but if you want a durable product with useful features, it's worth the few extra dollars.

Amazing product
This thing is a bliss if you need instant warm water any time of the day. For a new born baby, this is just amazing. Warm water in a matter of seconds when the baby gives some clues that she will wake up hungry is priceless. I am able to avoid a midnight wake up and cry crisis everytime, God bless you Zoji for making such a simple, fast, efficient product. Half way awake, hastily up at 3 am, you need this to be the perfect simplicity and functionality it is to keep ones mental sanity.140 fah degrees for instant formula is perfect.. until you shake the bottle, etc, it gets down to the perfect warm milk temperature. Could not ask for more.I have the 3 liter one, then I bought the 4 liter as well, since they are interchangeable as far as connecting the power cable goes and I just clean one once in a while, while the other one replaces it.Quality product all around.

Great machine
First time using this kind of water boiler. We bought it to replace a 20-year old Braun kettle that was just getting too slow. Glad we got the 4 litre size instead of the 3 litre. We're drinking a lot more tea now, but it's also great for french press coffee or for cooking water. Heats up fairly quickly (about 30 mins from cold, 5 mins from 175) but it really retains heat well even though it's not one of the vacuum models. It draws 700 watts on full heat, but uses only about 50 watts to keep the water at 208. The delay timer is a nice feature - we set it when leaving for work in the morning and before bed at night to save energy. So far it all works perfectly. Only complaint is that the pump is a bit slow for filling a large teapot. We have a Zojirushi bread maker that's been flawless, as well as some Zojirushi lunch jars, so we took a chance on the brand again. Not at all disappointed.

very handy/usable
Bought this for making tea through the day and there are 3 different temp hold settings. The off timer is very handy as with one touch of a button, I can turn it off overnight or if I'm gone for the day, I can choose 6, 7, etc. hours. Nice feature. Has to be plugged in to dispense, so if you need a portable solution, this wouldn't fit the bill.

Made in China, but that's ok!
Fantastic boiler! I've used many cheaper ones, including a clearance "Saltan" for $20 from Walmart. A boiler is a boiler like a car is a car. You don't see the value until you move up into the luxury class, and this boiler certainly is -- I mean it's a Zoji! The body has a glossy, brushed metal "look". See photos. The good...Magnetic power connector means easy to move and fill up. Interior is not stainless steel so won't as easily discolour or crust up from harder water. The bad...Ok, it's not "bad" but it's made in China. That said, there are many things made in China that have great QC -- like an iPhone. If you're expecting made in Japan, you'll be disappointed, but the quality is still great.Hope this helps!
