It has stayed dark green in TX!
We are in North Texas. I've tried all sorts of grass seed with varying success. This year we hit the 100s early and it's been DRY DRY DRY this summer. While the rest of the yard died off these held their color. They turn on the ends when cut and it's dry but have hung in there this brutal summer and are still a very dark green. The bad news......the ratio of seeds that actually sprout has been on the low side and it's hit or miss as to how many weeds come with it. I will continue using this seed as it actually has survived the summer helping to keep the dust away and does grow well for us. Given it's reasonably priced I don't mind that the success rate is lower than what I've seen with other grasses.

I was very skeptical but it works.
I have a friend who owns had a ton of soil, and being that I live in the desert 🏜 I wanted to have a patch of grass on my property of my garden and my dogs. I was hoping I didn’t have to buy sod at its high price. So DIY grass with this guy! After 1 week I saw grass and after 3 weeks it’s getting better. Please see photos. I would like to tell you it was harder for me to grow because I live in the high desert close to mountains and we have high winds and very dry days. I water the grass seeds sometimes twice a day and I also added two layers of seeds because of this (2 inches under the dirt seeds and right on top mixed in with the top soil). Another issue I had growing were my two Great Danes and my kitten. They love dirt and driving me crazy. So your grass might grow fast and look less spotty if you’d able to keep your animals away!

Works in Texas!
Buying a house in North Texas in the winter, I didn’t know what I was up against come spring. The weeds were awful because Bermuda goes dormant in the winter which allows weed seeds to plant themselves and then grow in the spring. To prevent this, I searched for a seed that would stay green in the winter, but also be able to survive the hot summer days. I came across this heat tolerant blue mix and so far it has been great! Deep green color and resistant to cold and drought. The difficult part is actually getting it to grow. I paired this with Scott’s “Turf Builder Triple Action Built for Seeding” starter food. Not only does it help the grass start to grow, but it prevents and kills off weeds while the seed is growing. All I did was overseed my lawn in fall last year as well as this spring and it has been taking over the Bermuda. Would highly recommend if you’re tired of looking at brown grass in the winter!

Excellent grass for a hot 100+ F Northern California climate - Highly recommended!
I live in Northern California where our temperatures range from occasional lows of 24F in the winter to many triple digit summer days up to 115F and this grass performs well here. I planted it in October of 2020 and had what appeared to be 100% germination within 10 days. The grass came in very green and strong. I did not add fertilizer as the soil had a lot of manure in it. Oddly the grass turned a bit brown and patchy by December and I thought I might have to reseed in the spring. I was a bit disappointed at that point. However I fertilized the grass in the spring and it came to life as a thick green carpet and has remained so ever since, including all of last summer and winter. I couldn't be happier with the results. Everyone who sees my new lawn can't believe it is not sod. In fact it looks better than the sod lawn in front of my home! One thing to point out about fescue grass seed is that it usually does not germinate well in temperatures above 90F. Perhaps that is why some reviewers had poor success with this grass seed?

Germination is hit or miss
2020 - After seeding and raking in, I covered the area with peat moss to keep moisture in. After 8 days of watering twice a day I had germination. Since then it has come in very well except for a few spots that probably has seed washed away. Really like the dark green look. The bluegrass should fill in well come next Spring. 2022 Update - Bought two separate 20 lb. bags a few weeks apart. The two bags had a different variety of tall fescue on the label. One had self-repairing tall fescue (SRP), the other did not. One bag had the sell by date stickered over with a new sell by date (apparently they can do that legally if the newest germination rate test is the same as listed on the bag). Watered twice a day, had minimal germination around day 7, mostly where peat moss was. Had full sun and windy days for two weeks. I'd say less than 40% germination due to no rain to help keep the soil moist. Some bare areas had zero germination. Without ideal conditions, the germination rate is poor.

Amazing Grass Seed!
I live in Florida in an HOA community and it is super hard to keep grass here between the hot sun, irrigation watering restrictions, cinch bugs, etc you name it. I've spent so much money on freakin sod, water bills, lawn treatment companies, you name it. I literally found this seed on a whim for sun and drought tolerance and just decided to take a chance on it. I only planted the seed in the areas of my yard where the patches of grass were dead which wasn't the smartest thing to do but I was trying to avoid an HOA violation without having to replace the entire front yard sod again. This seed is AMAZING!!!! I am not going to go back and redo the entire front with this seed. It's not a thick blade of grass like St. Augustine; however it's super green, grew in thick, didn't take that long to grow in and I barely watered it. It looks so great, I can't wait to finish the rest now that I know this seed works. Highly recommend it.

Waste of money
Don't bother with this. It's expensive and a minimal amount of grass grew and quickly died, despite constant watering.

3 stars due to value vs money...
It is very easy to use and work quickly! My issue is the cost. Yes, it's much easier than buying turf and then paying someone else to place it. But for $30, it would be nice to get some more. While I do not know how much it costs to coat the seeds, I can't imagine it costing too much. Personally, for $30, would be better a better value for a 10 lbs up to 14 lbs, but again, that's just my opinion. Other than that, it does grow quickly. Not sure how well it stands up to drought conditions or heat, as it's Spring time here in Texas. Will try to update this in the dog days of summer, if I remember.
