Coated in a smelly, oily substance- smells like gasoline

Even after wiping down and airing out more than once, these candles have a terrible, strong chemical smell and feel oily to the touch. They also have some surface dings and scratches. I'm reluctant to burn them because I'm afraid they'll make the whole room smell like gas. Bummer, I was looking forward to these.
