high quality diverter.
I purchased this as a warehouse return. Initially I thought I understood why it was returned...it leaked horribly. After a few more turns (well past what I expected to be the breaking point) it works great. I was not in the position to spend a great deal of money on one of these. I have been extremely pleased with the performance of this item. It is smooth and easy enough for my 7 year old to manipulate. My 4 yo can do so too but only if someone can lift her up. The metal female is strong. Like I said, I thought it was a defected part, but I was able to use a pipe wrench on this thing. Do not waste your money on a plastic diverter...they are not worth it.

Easy to install, made mostly of metal
Seems well built..mostly metal I believe..seems solid and should last a few years

Definitely not metal.
This is advertised as "metal" in the material, and it is definitely not metal. It is plastic coated with a brushed nickel finish, and it is very weak and not sturdy enough to use.

very nice product
I bought this because I wanted to add a handheld shower in my shower that already has a valve and 4 shower heads. I did not want to destroy the tile by adding a separate rest to it. I used the existing shower head and this. my only complaint is that for a kohler product this seems somewhat... plastic. after tightening well it does seem to work decently without problems.

But it
Performs above expectation. Works perfectly. Bought this device so I could attach a handheld shower head so I could bathe the puppy In our walk in shower. Works perfectly.

A faulty unit does not make up for looks
Some background:My wife an i have gone through several different shower parts to get the right look and functionality for our bathroom remodel. We liked having a separate shower head and had used stick-on mounts to secure the handle. Of the two diverters we used during that time, both did not leak and did not budge (with one caveat below...)We tried to use a full-metal shower handle with the previous setup and the weight of it was too much. The stick-on mount eventual gave and let the shower head scratch our shower. When trying to secure the shower handle to the diverter, the weight was too much and rotated the diverter. We gave up on that solution and returned all products. This product:After browsing a while, we discovered the Kohler Awaken line. We had used one shower head before and liked the rest of the look. Yes, it is not all-metal, but we were fine with that concession. Right from the box, I noticed the inlet connection felt more loose than I'd expect. Once installed, this was made more apparent when the entire diverter rotated without a shower handle attached. This already knocked stars off as I need that horizontal look and stability; I can't image how this would have failed with a heavier handle. I decided to continue connecting the rest of the products only to be greeted with a catastrophic leak when I turned the water on. Instead of leaking around the threads (where you'd expect due to a lack of tightness or plumber's tape), it leaked at the inlet fitting connection to the body! This shot water up and over our shower. I have NEVER seen a shower component fail to this extent. Needless to say, this part was unusable. After looking at the other reviews, I can't recommend this. I am going to risk it with a similar-looking diverter/mount combo.
