You can use any number of things to thin Oil Paints, but this is the best for a good reason. It doesn't stink up your studio, it works fast, consistent, and it's clean. Came fast, well packaged and I say it's well worth the price for anyone who uses oil paints!

I use this for blending oil pastels, Shiva oil sticks, color pencils, and wax crayons. It works beautifully, doesn't leave a super-greasy film, and doesn't have a scent. However, I can pick up a hint of *something* when I use it- just sort of a vapor that isn't pure (that sounds ridiculous but I'm trying to articulate it). For those with sensitivities to chemicals, this seems much less toxic than most, but there's still *something* that may cause issues. However, it's a lot less noxious than other substances I use in my work (including isopropyl alcohol) and it works very well and quickly, so I don't have prolonged exposure. Evaporates quickly, as well, so while it does leave oily residue on porous surfaces, it does go away leaving just the medium. It also works great for getting adhesive off things.

I order this 33.8 ounce Gamblin Gamsol odorless thinner to clean my oil and acrylic paint brushes. A lot of artist says its the best and much safer. So far after opening it and taking a smell of it there is no odor at all. I can't smell a thing. Thats why I gave it five stars. How well it cleans, I'm sure it cleans well. But having no odor is what I was looking for and this is a great investment. I've tried all the other odorless thinners and they always gave off a strong odor soon as you open the cap. Not this one. Every artist should have this in their studio. A bit pricey but well worth it and I see why.

The only one to use.

Having studied Oil Painting for decades Gamsol is the ONLY product I have used. My instructor introduced me to Gamsol and I have been delighted with the results from day one. The consistency has been most reliable and extremely effective. The ease of cleaning my brushes and palette knives makes clean up a dream.
