Writing Interactive Music for Video Games: A Composer's Guide (Game Design and Development)

The one and only textbook i've read from cover to cover!
One of the best textbooks I've ever used. This has literally been the one and only textbook i've actually read through completely throughout all of my academic career (which is close to 10 years..but that is another story). Sweet's writing is very clear, organized, and easy to follow. He provides amazing examples and industry standards that were completely new for me. The book goes over very useful composing tips and techniques specific for video game music and I found the tips pertaining to the business and contract sides are amazing. If you are at all interested in composing for video games, BUY THIS BOOK NOW!

How to be a games composer
The books starts a little slowly and repetitively but gains momentum. It has a strong US-centricity limiting its application elsewhere, but there are some fascinating interviews with Japanese composers interspersed throughout the text. The book does not confine itself to technique but also examines the broader industry and how the composer interacts with it, with lots of handy tips. Some more diagrams and screenshots would have added to the text.

Goes above and Beyond
This was a really great book that I return to often as a reference. It goes beyond most books on the subject in that it offers practical advice for contract negotiations, freelancing, networking, and many other aspects of the industry that newcomers may not know about. I also very much enjoyed the primer to sound synthesis. It was concise, well written, and dead on.

Infinitely comprehensive, clear and inspiring. This book is packed full of valuable insights for amateurs and veterans alike. Perhaps the best book on the subject.

Needs editing
There are definitely things to learn from this book, but it is in need of some serious editing. As it is, I found it incredibly tedious to read. I would actually stop and count the number of times the same information was repeated (practically copy-pasted) on the exact same page and, on occasion, it pushed double digits. It almost felt like someone trying to hit a word minimum or something. It also doesn't help that chapters would often open and close with the same block of copy-pasted text, with the operative word changed. The opening of a textbook chapter does not need to inform you that, in this chapter, you will learn about the thing the chapter is named after. That's pretty self-evident. This book has value, but the amount of filler and repetitive text makes it hard to recommend.

Difficult concepts are explained in simple and easy practical ways
This book is a kind of mini encyclopedia over Interactive Music for Video Games. Difficult concepts are explained in simple and easy practical ways. It is a boon for Experienced Professionals as well as Beginners in the field. This book has increased my efficiencies as composer and as an audio programmer. Much is there in this book which is never taught in Graduation or Post Graduation Courses in Music.

Buen contenido para compositores
Se lo regalé a mi hermano que es el compositor y quien está interesado en componer música para videojuegos. Y la valoración es suya más que mía pero está contento con el libro. Lo único malo es que no hay versión en español.
