I was in search of a portable DAC without a built-in battery, as I've often been disappointed by quickly depleting or bulging batteries that render the device useless. By chance, I came across the UA3, and its specifications were surprisingly outstanding for a product priced around $100. I was initially skeptical, wondering if it was too good to be true. However, upon receiving and using it, I was absolutely astounded. This DAC is unbeatable in the $100 price range. It's a mystery to me why it hasn't gained more attention. The sound clarity and transparency are remarkably impressive, leaving a lasting impression. I could even feel the varying intensities of the drummer's wrist movements through the audio, far exceeding my expectations. Comparing its 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs, both are exceptional, but there's a slight edge with the 4.4mm port, especially when it comes to the resolution of symphonic music. Using the 4.4mm interface, the orchestral details are just a bit more refined and clearer, enhancing the overall listening experience.

Tired of the ESS sterile sound? Get this. It’s warmer than Cirrus Logic chips, but not as laid back a Burr-Brown. The implementation it’s what matters and Shanling did a great job with this one.Compared to the dddHiFi TC44C, the UA3 is a nice complement. The TC44C is more focused on the sub-bass and instrument separation/detail, but the difference vs. the Apple dongle is not night and day to warrant the much higher price tag. The UA3 sound is noticeable different to the Apple dongle and has more note weight and better timbre for vocals and acoustic instruments, you may say it sounds more natural, but that’s subjective.It has enough power for my Focal Clear & HD600 and handled my Mest MKII, EJ07M-KL, Oracle, SA6, XBA-N3 & ATH-LS200 hiss-free. My favorite pairing was with the HD600, EJ07M-KL & ATH-LS200.

Owned dacs with CS43131, CS43198, CX31991, ES9281PRO, Apple DAC. This has the best output powery dynamics and quality in high frequencies. Drives Sennheiser HD660S perfectly with sufficient output via 4.4 balanced. Love it and will definitely recommend to all people looking for a decent AMP.

I tried two different USB-C cables and even updated its firmware with one of the cables while connected to my Windows PC but it wouldn't fully work with my Pixel 6 Pro running Android 13. At one point it showed the volume buttons would successfully control my phone's volume but no sound came through my headphones and playback would never allow the music to play in from my preferred music app.Shanling's Eddict app would display the DAC as being connected but it wouldn't play any music from my phone's local music library nor from YouTube Music streaming either. Eventually even the Edict app couldn't find the DAC so I initiated a return.This device uses an AKM DAC chip and is the first one from Shanling after the long shutdown of A because of the AKM factory fire but the faulty nature of this DAC makes me wonder if this new AKM chip isn't reliable enough yet. The only other possibility is that it isn't compatible with Android 13 yet but Android 13 has been available for testing for over 6 months so it doesn't seem like a major brand like Shanling would not be on top of this compatibility.

Works flawlessly on Apple iOS and on Fire OS but on Android - Pixel 6 and 7 and on Motorola G6 and G7 - this dongle needs to first be put in compatibility mode which then limits playback mode to standard resolution.

Sound is very detailed, just what's expected from AKM DAC chips. Dongle feels well built, the volume control on an iPhone 12 Pro jumps several decibels, maybe can be changed on Android devices. Overall, very pleased with the quality and sound, cheers!

I got the Shanling UA3 DAC dongle today and after doing a quick test on my iPhone 13 pro, got to say - my first impression , gently speaking, was less than expected.First of all ALL the setting for the DAC is not available for iOS users, only for Android via the app called 'Eddict Player'. You can install it on iOS also but it did not even recognize the DAC. I don't know why this DAC has been listed as iOS fully compatible...because it's NOT. Not to be able to use all the functionality in iOS makes it not worth money spent (IMHO).If Shanling wants to get money from iOS consumer - they should work harder and provide fully functional product or charge less from iPhone users for providing a crippled version of DAC .Again - this is my personal opinion.Now, about the sound - Well, I want to be honest here, but based on my listening test the presence of AK4493SEQ chip inside this DAC is very doubtful . I expected smooth nice sound. but what I heard was harsh and flat representation of well known records.Dimension and layering? - Forget about it!. The sound is flat as a piece of the drywall .I will give it another shot before sending it back to Amazon(Shanling) but I don't think it would change anything.Bottom line is - big disappointment!Update 2023-05-08Got Shanling M6 Ultra DAP the other day to compare it to iPhone 13 pro + Shanling UA3 dongle.Well...what can I say. Those who think they would get hi-fi audio out of their iPhones by attaching a dongle like UA3 - I regret to say - it's not gonna work. So don't spend your money expecting miracle - the UA3 will not make your cell phone sound as a standalone DAP. To be honest I could not tell a big difference between $7 apple lightning to audio dongle and the Shanling UA3 in terms of sound quality.I'm glad that I got the chance to explore the thing although ...

Lo usé con un Xiaomi 13T Pro y un S24 Ultra y funciona excelente.

Out of the box, my unit was on firmware V01.01.07, and was causing nothing but grief when trying to connect to my Google Pixel 6. After updating the firmware to V01.01.09, it connects no problem. Great sounding DAC dongle, quite a good upgrade from my FiiO BTR3K. Paired with my Letshouer S12 Pro, the low gain setting is more than plenty, with a comfortable listening volume around 40%.Would recommend!

Since it sports dual AK4493 SEQ, I had a high expectation on this unit, but I was not impressed. You might want to listen to other product in the similar price range. Try DEW5 with ES9219C or KA5 (dual CS43198), or iFi GoLink (EQ9219MQ).
