No instructions
This item comes with no instructions. I have a very hard time giving any item that does not come with instructions more than three stars. I haven't been able to use this yet because I'm not entirely sure how it goes together as it came in two pieces and it is supposed to interact with vegetables or fruit. I'm going to have to fiddle with it a bit more and see if I can figure it out at which point I will try to update this review, but for now I am frustrated.

Works best with very stiff carrots
My son gets cut up carrots in his lunch every day, so I got this partly as an alternative way to prepare them. I tried it with some carrots that had probably been in the fridge for a week so they were somewhat flexible, and they didn't really work that well. But the idea behind it is simple: put in a carrot and turn it just like you would sharpen a pencil in a pencil sharpener. It does produce ribbons of carrot that are just like large pencil shavings, so it would be a neat way to prepare carrots for a salad. Unfortunately my son really missed the traditional crunch of his carrot sticks, but it was a simple process to use it. You definitely get much better results when you use a very fresh/very stiff carrot.
