Sturdy box made of MDF.
The box I received is sturdy and made from MDF. It handles my powerful subwoofer. I removed the decorative film, sanded, and painted black. Looks great now! In the pic you can see i have the sub in a downward firing configuration.

Quality
Box is made of a type of compressed cardboard, don't worry, it's every bit as tough as normal wood. I had to cut the hole out just a bit larger to fit and odd sized speaker and this stuff is solid. Worked great for my application, adding a subwoofer to a 2.1 channel amp for pc bookshelf speakers.
