Not Compatible with Mac: A Costly Mistake
I purchased the Acer PD193Q monitor and was initially impressed with the packaging and build quality. However, the positive aspects ended there. The monitor came with a quick connection guide and a warranty booklet but lacked a comprehensive user manual. Like many others who purchased this monitor, I was unable to get it to work with my Mac M4 running macOS Sequoia 15.4. After some searching, I found the manual on the Acer Global website. It mentioned drivers for macOS that needed to be installed. Despite installing these drivers, the monitor only worked at a low resolution when connected via USB-C. When using the HDMI cable, it powered only the lower screen. When both the USB-C and HDMI cables were connected simultaneously, my Mac system incorrectly detected three monitors, although only two screens worked, and both displayed at low resolution with USB-C. After hours of troubleshooting, I contacted Amazon tech support, but they were unable to assist me even after nearly two hours. I then reached out to Acer tech support, which was similarly unhelpful. After over an hour, I was informed that this monitor is designed exclusively for Windows. If that is the case, why does it include macOS drivers? Both tech support staff appeared to follow generic scripts without providing meaningful assistance. Their repeated instructions to unplug cables and power adapters felt simplistic and ineffective, resembling an instruction manual that might suggest touching one's head and belly simultaneously while spinning around three times. With a master's degree in computer science and over 20 years of professional experience, I could easily recognize when I was being fed unhelpful or misleading information. Ultimately, Amazon and Acer tech support wasted my time. After spending 4–5 frustrating hours trying to make this monitor work, I decided to return it. My experience as a macOS user was extremely disappointing. The time I spent troubleshooting far exceeded the cost of the monitor, leaving me feeling that this purchase was a financial and practical loss. Zero stars

I figured out how to get the second monitor to turn on.
Godspeed to you if you decide to get this monitor. It is not for the faint of heart, and may drag you down into the tech abyss. However, if you should prevail, you will experience a level of on-the-road productivity that few mortals will ever know in the course of their lifetime. Like everyone else here, my top monitor didn't work when it first arrived. After banging my head against the monitor for hours, here's what I figured out: 1) Plug your monitor in to your computer using the usb-c to usb-c cable. 2) Go to the file explorer on your computer, and access the monitor as an additional drive (like you would access the files on a USB drive). I think this is what Acer is trying to communicate in step six of the provided instructions. 2a) It may be difficult to get the monitor to display as another drive. You may need to unplug/plug the monitor multiple times, or restart your computer until it can "see" the monitor. 3) When you enter the "monitor drive", you will see a few files. One of them is labeled something like Win USB Display.exe. (The computer now sees it as a monitor instead of a drive, so I'm going off of memory here.) 4) Double click it to run the executable. This will install software on your computer that will allow it to use the top monitor. 5) You may need to unplug/plug the monitor in after you install the software. At least Acer is a Taiwanese (not Chinese) company so hopefully they're not using the software to spy on us! I give it four stars because once you install the software, the monitor works pretty great! (and, because this monitor needs some love after its first two reviews being one-star!) Every once in a while, you need to unplug/plug in the monitor to get the computer to use the top monitor. Nevertheless, it is the best portable monitor I've travelled with and I love it. I am a software developer, so I need as much screen space as possible, and this monitor delivers. I feel like I'm at the same level of productivity on the road as I am in my home office now. And, I can just throw it in a backpack and go. I love dragging one window to fill both screens so I get the ultra tall view!

Great idea but poor execution
This monitor is big.. really big - that can be good but it is not thin and a bit heavy. The real issue is that in order to run both monitors you must install a special driver - that is not plug and play - and if you happen to have a work laptop and a company that refused to load outside software/drivers on then you are out of luck. The other issue is that the laptop cannot run off of a simple plug-n-play usb-c cable. You have to plug it in usb-c in order to connect that screens and THEN also plug it in to an electrical outlet.. so two cords needed as well as a power brick. That makes this monitor clunky and not truly portable. Coming from Acer I expect more, much more - do better Acer - especially for the money you required me to pay for this. P.S. mine did NOT come with instructions…. And when I contacted Acer support, they did not even know they sold this monitor and could find NO documentation on it. Again, do better Acer!!

Pretty sweet, once it's up and running.
**Came back to edit my five stars down to two. For a while, everything was fine, and then the top screen started blinking on and off. At first I thought it went to sleep or something so when it came back on, I thought everything was fine...until it kept doing that. Now it blinks on and off intermittently, yet regularly, throughout the day. For some reason it has to do it twice, and it doesn't matter if I'm in the middle of working - it cuts off. I have no idea where to even start to diagnose the problem AND also, now this screen is more magnified than my other monitors. So, this is disappointing and I'm thinking of returning it, rather than spending the next however many months trying to pay it off. But this was the only one in the style I wanted that had the Amazon payment plan. S.O.B *** Firstly, let me say that the 5 stars are for the monitors ONCE YOU GET THEM WORKING. The setup sucked so much, but I already knew it was going to suck because of the reviews. So, I was able to remain patient throughout the process, knowing that it could be figured out and all of the other monitors like this are well outside of my budget. I did eventually get my computer to recognize the second monitor (which, I realized, was what made everything difficult). I plugged, unplugged, restarted...all of that. And because my computer only has, like, one USB-C and one USB-A I have to use docking stations. I'm not sure what finally did it, since I was also changing around which docking station they were plugged into, but when I finally looked back, I saw that I had an extra drive up besides Windows (C). I think mine said (D)? Either way, I knew it was the screen because, well, it certainly wasn't there before. I double clicked to download the only thing available, watched my screen spasm, panicked that I'd broken my new computer, and then allowed the restart. Again, it didn't come on immediately, but it eventually turned right on. I adjusted my display settings (I had NO idea that you could move the screens around to match your set up, even though it says it right *there*) and I'm now typing this from the top screen. Score! Now, as for the monitor, this is awesome as heck. I'm definitely a fan of the monitor size. But, it's also thin and portable, has a good enough picture and has it's own speakers in the back. I'd also say that it's design saves me a whole lot of room, where I can get two monitors for the space of one. So....setup sucks, description/directions could be much clearer, but it's pretty sweet once you get it up and running.

Works well IF you are allowed to install a driver and willing to connect with 3 cables.
Good quality image. I would probably have ranked it much higher but I was disappointed that it wasn’t plug and play AND it took installing a driver (which work ended up not letting me do when I had to replace my computer) and only works with three cords. 1 USBC power, 1 USBC for one screen, and one HDMI for the other screen. Since my IT department won’t let me install the driver I can only use one screen with USBC power and HDMI. Work ended up replacing it with a new one from an unrecognized manufacturer and it worked right out of the box off 1 USBC cord (not at full brightness). Adding a USBC power connection let it go to full brightness.

Great Concept, but Setup is a Headache
I had high hopes for this monitor, but getting it to work was much more complicated than expected. The top monitor didn’t function right out of the box, and the instructions were far from clear. After a lot of trial and error, I eventually figured out that you have to treat the monitor like a USB drive and run a specific file to install the software. It wasn’t straightforward at all and took multiple restarts and plug-ins to get it recognized by my computer. Once you do manage to get the top screen working, the monitor itself performs well. The extra screen space is fantastic, especially for someone like me who needs as much workspace as possible while traveling. I really appreciate the portability and the ability to throw it in a backpack and go. However, the ongoing issue is that the top screen occasionally disconnects, and I have to unplug and re-plug it to get it back. The lack of official driver support from Acer is a real letdown, and the fact that I had to find a workaround by downloading a slow driver from a third-party site was frustrating. Overall, this monitor has a lot of potential, but the setup is unnecessarily complicated and it could be better supported. If you’re not tech-savvy or don’t have the patience to deal with connection issues, you might want to look for a better-supported option. It’s a great idea, just poorly executed. Three stars for the functionality once it’s finally up and running, but getting there is a struggle.

Complete crap
I've just received this dual monitor and I am so disappointed. First off, there are no instructions, user guide, nothing. Unbelievably, after trying to find a pdf manual online, I could not find one. I can’t believe it, a product that was released this year, and there is no manual online, nor from ACER or from any other site. So I try to understand how it works. Second disappointment: according to the Amazon questions function: Yes, the Acer PD193Q portable monitor can be charged using the USB Type-C cable plugged into a computer. According to the product information, it comes with a USB Type-C cable that supports data transfer, power delivery (15W), and DisplayPort over USB-C connection. Well, guess what. I plugged it into two different laptops and it would not turn on. Sure enough, when I put a second cable to an external power supply, it turned on. One of the reasons because of which I bought this was to be able to use it with only one cable and avoid more cables and chargers. Third disappointment: in the Amazon answers, I had read: “the foldable design with adjustable stand suggests that you may be able to adjust the viewing angle or fold one screen back, implying the potential to use a single screen if desired”. Well, yes and no, because, you see, the upper monitor always stays on, so what’s the point of flopping the upper monitor back and leave it on and consuming energy if you are not seeing it? There is no way to turn it off, which is ridiculous and, to be honest, the “tent” or “folding back” function is basically useless because, honestly, how many people are going to use this to show a presentation to somebody who is in front of you? Fourth disappointment: I flip it and only one of the monitors (the right one) changes to vertical view, the other remains in horizontal but, as it’s flipped 90º, it’s actually turned. Fifth disappointment: this device is SO BAD that if you close both screens together, they are still on and shining unless you remove the power button. Can you believe that? This device doesn’t even have some kind of sensor or button or whatever to turn the device off if it’s completely closed, such as what all laptops do. What’s the point of having two completely closed screens against each other turned on? Returning it immediately. If I were you, I would steer away from this device. No wonder it only has two stars.
