Help to restore comfort and control in life
Karen Statner's Somatic Movement offers a transformative approach to restoring functional, pain-free movement by reconnecting the body and mind. With authenticity and compassion, Statner introduces the method of Clinical Somatic Education, originally developed by Thomas Hanna, as a way to help readers rediscover their natural capacity for movement without pain or stiffness. The book guides readers through understanding subconscious muscular holding patterns that lead to discomfort and restricted movement. Through gentle somatic movements, Statner shows how anyone can release these patterns, create lasting change in their nervous system, and regain autonomy over their body. Perfect for those seeking to regain mobility, relieve pain, or deepen their connection to their body, Somatic Movement is an empowering and insightful guide. It invites readers to embrace self-discovery, improve their physical well-being, and live more freely and fully. A must-read for anyone looking to restore comfort and control in their life.

Unlock the Power of Your Body's Natural Healing
I recently discovered Somatic Movement, and it's been a game-changer for understanding how our bodies can heal themselves. The author explains that we can fix ourselves and live pain-free if we know how to tap into it. The book is full of simple exercises that help release our muscle tensions without even realizing it. It's all about getting back in touch with our bodies and moving without effort or discomfort. If you're looking to move better and feel more at ease in your skin, this book is worth reading.

An incredible overview of an important subject.
Being from Yorkshire myself, I appreciated the author's sense of humor and style of writing. Also, as a therapist, I appreciated the psychological underpinnings and insights that this book provides. I've read a lot of books about the mind/body connection and yet this book taught me a whole lot.

You CAN have less muscle pain & move more easily. This excellent book shows you how. Don't miss it!
In this frankly brilliant book, Statner explains 'what somatics is' and why most people have some unconscious muscle tightness and pain or restricted movement. She guides the reader through an understanding of why, through our habits, we hold on to that pain. Then, using pictures and bullet points, she literally shows you how to sense and release that... for yourself. This book manages to be both a thorough discussion of the biological and neurological reasons for habituated muscle pain and restricted movement, and an enjoyable and easy to read guide for how to potentially live a life with increased movement, less pain and more freedom. You CAN move more freely, learn to get up without groaning (even as you get older!) and release the pain you thought you had to live with. This excellent book shows you how.

A great tool that can help anyone to move more freely
In this easy to read introduction to somatic movement, the author effectively explains the theory and practice in a most accessible way. The analogies, examples and references to her own significant experience make the work come alive. The book is especially helpful in demonstrating the mind, body and spirit connection. The writer leads us through the theory to aid our understanding of the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of somatic practice and how it is applicable to everyone. In the second part of the book, she manages to simplify the descriptions of each practice in a way that even absolute beginners can follow. Photographs of each of the movements accompanying the text are also very helpful in supporting learning. As the author explains, all of us develop unhelpful habits of movement and it is in our hands to make informed changes that can help address these. This book is a great tool for doing just that. Having suffered with arthritis in my knees for a few years, it has helped me to understand the way this has been impacting my body (and mind). It has also helped me to learn some practices that I believe will assist me in the long term.I wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone.

Excellent introduction to somatics
I've been going to somatics classes for a couple of years and it's really helped me to avoid recurring back spasms. This book is really easy to read and has filled in some of the gaps in my knowledge about how somatics started and what its principles are. The exercises section is described really clearly and is a useful reminder of things I can do in my own practice at home. Definitely recommended.

Somatic Movement
A very well presented and accessible read. Interesting to discover how Karen became interested in Hanna Somatics and how it has changed her life. It is a great introductory book for beginners but also offers new insights for the more experienced . 'We are a continual living process right up to the last breath' as quoted by Karen, certainly is an enlightening thought and a very good motivator to learn more and to practise somatic movement. The instructions for the movements are very clear and informative. There is also useful space to write notes after the movements. I would definitely recommend this book.

A perfect easy to read guide to Somatics
This book is so helpful - Karen writes about complex things in an easy to grasp, relatable style and makes a compelling case for exploring somatic movement. The best thing is that in addition to the rationale, the second part of the book makes the movements themselves really clear so you can use it as a guide for your own practice. Have read and reread and bought for friends with back problems - it is a game changer.
